Belly bands & Dermatitis
 
So, Leo's skin is a little sensitive I guess to having pee on his tummy from the belly bands. I noticed some red rashes on his stomach where the belly band usually goes and immediately stopped putting it on him. (I discarded the belly bands, as I will not be using them on him anymore) The next day, he had blisters where those red bumps were full of pus. Poor baby :( Took him to vet and they said it's a form of dermatitis. Now he's on medicated shampoo and conditioner and antibiotics for a week. He's only 2.5 pounds and 4 months old..is there anything special I should do for the antibiotics? I gave him his first dose and he shook his head sneezing like if it had a horrible taste (probably did).

Just to let you know Belly Bands are not to be used as form of potty training, which it seems you were doing. Of course with him wearing the bands daily his poor sensitive skin is going to break out. Had you been washing his skin every time you changed the pads on the band??

I hope he is feeling better soon and skin clears up.

Actually, I only had him wearing his belly band at night strictly so he wouldn't pee in the cage but since then I lay down a pee pad on the corner of the bed so he can potty there. And no, I wasn't washing him with soap and water but cleaning him up with a puppy wipe so it wouldn't smell like pee. He was only with it on for the night time anywhere from 6-7 hours which could have easily been the time when that happened to him. Anyway, that's moot now since I already discarded them and won't be using them again. Thank you, it's already looking much better and dried up. Now just have to wait for the little scabs to fall off.

Poor little guy. Glad to hear his skin is healing, and that you have switched to piddle pads.

Belly bands are great aids for a variety of reasons, but they are labor intensive to avoid skin problems.
