Protein Losing Enteropathy My 5 yrs old male yorkie was diagnosed with Protein Losing Enteropathy in January of this year. After blood work and a draining of his abdomen he was then put on Atopica 25mg, Budesonide 1mg, Tylan 100 mg, Famotidine 20mg along with a vitamin B12 shot weekly and a diet of Royal Canin Gastrointestinal low fat canned and dry food diet. My question is; would it be possible to wean him off the drugs other than the B12 shot and continue with the low fat diet and still be able to control this disease? He is doing well now but has to remain in diapers as he cannot control urinating which my vet said would happen due to the steroids. I would appreciate any input on this. Thank you. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm sorry to hear that your baby has PLE. You might find this thread helpful: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ia-update.html |
Yes, they can sometimes come off of the steroids but only after they have maintained a normal albumin level for a period of time. I definitely would not recommend doing this on your own! Discuss this with your vet. I just lost a pup who had PLE/lymphangectasia and IBD for 5.5 years. In the end, she didn't pass from that illness, so it CAN be managed. |
