Methione Gel Overdose
 

Yesterday Thumper was a naughty boy and some how managed to open a Rubbermaid bin that I keep my plastic tubberware in. Apparently, in the bottom of the bin was an old supplement for Boomer for PH balance to help with his kidney disease.


Well both Thumper and Bella attacked and ate almost the entire tube. I would have not known any of this without having installed cameras in my kitchen (Thank g-d for them) At first I didn't know what it was so I asked my dog walker to come early and pick up after them (I thought it was a piece of paper originally). She got there within 1.5 hours. She sent me a picture of it and told me there was a little throw up on the floor. At first I wasn't concerned since it was an OTC supplement. But than I did a google search and became nervous.


I called Nationwide's Vet Help Line and was immediately connected to a Vet toxicology expert. After discussing the systems (lots of puking) but otherwise normal. They suggested I call my vet and take them in. I decided to first call my vet as I was at work and was unable to leave right away. He called me back within the hour and asked some more questions. He said the throwing up was a good thing and that they kept drinking water. He asked to have my dog walker come back and monitor them for lethargy, loss of coordination and dehydration. She came back later that day and cleaned up the entire mess. They must have puked 5-6 times all together. My entire kitchen was covered in it. (She will be getting a big fat bonus this week). She said they seemed normal just tired.


My vet said just to monitor them but thinks they will pass it on their own. Thumper puked once more around 5 pm but since than nothing. They both ate their boiled chicken last night and this morning. No diarrhea and Bella is back to her hyperactive puppy self.


The moral of this story is if I did not have cameras on them with video recording I can access instantly I don't know what would have happened. I am also glad with my pet insurance I have access to 24/7 Vet assistance and my own vet did not panic. He doesn't even think I need to bring them in for a liver test since none of the signs are there (i.e. drooling loss of coordination).


I was so helpless yesterday being at work and not able to be there for them but with the help of trusted people all of us got through it.


I swear yorkies are determined dogs. The bin was closed but Thumper managed to lift the lid with his nose and find the one thing he can eat in it and his sister just followed suit. Today they are resting comfortably and I am exhausted.

Wow, great that you have cameras and saw there was trouble brewing. Better yet you have a trusted walker that can check in on them when needed. Thank god those two lil rascals are ok. Never under estimate a yorkie, they are very determined and very mischievous. I can imagine the stress you went through seeing this and not being there. PLEASE get rid of all meds you no longer need or use.

Omg, how great that you had those cameras and could mitigate this situation from far away - well done! How scary though, wow. SO glad they are okay! What a good Momma you are :).

Thanks... they are mostly back to normal. Bella threw up her dinner last night but I think that was because she inhaled it too fast. It has happened to Thumper at times. I gave her boiled chicken again with only a little bit of kibble and she is fine. She is fighting being in the kitchen today but that is normal for her. She hates to be confined. Thumper is sleeping per usual.


I think the whole incident took years off my life. (Just kidding) I would recommend having some type of recording device to all doggy owners if you are going to be away for long periods of time on a consistent basis.
