Conjunctivitis My daughter's two year old Yorkie gets conjunctivitis repeatedly. The vet says it is an allergic reaction perhaps to herself???? Currently she is on Temarel and eye drops. She recommended Coricidin at the first sign of its return. ( no Coricidin while on Temarel). She is really bothered by the itchiness and pain and is constantly rubbing her face against the grass and carpet. She stays with me for weeks at a time. For example, she's been here since Christmas while my daughter in abroad on business. Of course, I give the meds and drops as instructed and bathe her eyes with warm compresses four times per day, but is there more I can do? Gew |
For long term, I think I'd take her to a Vet Ophthalmologist. |
Has anyone suggested a food allergy ? as food allergies can also cause this problem so I think I'd be going to an allergist to get to the bottom of it ASAP. |
That is very helpful. We recently gradually switched her from Blue Buffalo grain free which she hated. We had done the same thing in November, the last time she developed conjunctivitis. Dumb, I know, but I didn't connect the two incidents. Let me try to sound less dumb. Audrey is my daughter's dog. She stays here when my daughter goes for long trips abroad for extended times, as much as seven weeks last fall, and now five weeks. Audrey just would not eat the Blue Buffalo, so knowing little about good Yorkie food, I gradually switched her to Royal Canine which she loves. While switching she would carefully separate the two foods, leaving the Blue Buffalo, so when the food was running out when a trip forced my daughter to leave her here at Christmas, and the dog would not eat the food again, I did the same thing. Well, today I will try to get her something that doesn't cause her such chagrin. Fortunately, the vet did all kinds of eye tests and there is no damage. THANKS SO MUCH!!! |
