Maya is drinking more than usual Hi everyone. I noticed in the couple of weeks that Maya (6.5) has been drinking More than usual. I took her to the vet and they took blood and urine Samples and told me that everything came back ok. I still feel that something Is wrong. I was wondering if anyone here experienced something similar? Should I ask for additional tests? Btw- I feed her royal canin that I buy at the vet. Thanks! |
We are entering here winter months. Is the heat up in your apartment or house. Air can be drier. Have you checked her thyroid levels? |

Thanks ;) |

Thyroid imbalances can cause a bewildering host of symptoms. Now I am assuming her sugar and insulin levels are fine. |

Humans have untreated diabetics they drink a lot right? I will call the vet tomorrow and ask if she checked that. Thanks a lot |
You are more than welcome. If you want to meet up with my Yorkie for a walking date that would be great. |
Anytime you see a real increase in thirst/drinking and urinating, the 2 things you truly need to consider ruling out are Cushings Disease and Diabetes. Testing for diabetes is easy. Testing for Cushings is much more involved. The very 1st test you'd do to rule out Cushings (a test which is NOT diagnostic, btw) is the Cortisol-Creatinine Ratio Urine Test. This test does *not* tell you if Cushings is present, it tells you whether you need to proceed, or not, with the more specific and expensive Cushings tests (ie, the ACTH or LDDS etc). Are there *any* other random symptoms...? Here is a site on Cushings: Cushings (Hyperadrenocorticism) | | Long Beach Animal Hospital |

She thinks that perhaps maya wasn't drinking too much before and now she actually drinks normally. There are no other symptoms that I can see. Dead end lol |

But hopefully, it's just nothing and your kiddo is just fine :). |
