Kidney Disease I just heard back from the Vet regarding Boomer's bloodwork and Urinalysis and the Vet said he has early stage 1 kidney disease. His bloodwork is fine but his urinalysis (not sure the exact level) is too low. The Vet suggested putting him on prescription food for renal failure. This is awful news. He is my first pet and I do not know how to handle this. His brother Thumper is fine. I am beside myself. I asked if I should see a specialist but the Vet said at this stage it is not necessary. He said Boomer can live another 4-5 years at it is a slow progression and we caught it early. He is only 5 years old and I would love to hear stories from others that have gone through this. |
I have no experience but want to say so sorry to hear this :( hope medication helps and you get plenty of advice. *hugs for boomer* xx |
No advise either , just wanted to say how very sorry I am over this news. With the proper meds I am sure he will lead a healthy life as your vet said it was caught early. Try not to get too stressed out, remember, our babies feed off us. (((hugs))) to you and Boomer. |
I am very sorry Boomer received this diagnosis. From reading here on YT, I have learned that dogs can live a long time with kidney disease, especially when caught early. I hope people who have positive stories will see your post and be able to offer some insight/ Boomer and you are in my prayers. |
My little girl Heidi lived for 3 1/2 more years after diagnosed in severe renal failure. She would have been 18 yrs old if she had made it another 11 days. She was on several meds plus sub-q fluids those last 3 1/2 years. I'm so glad your little one was diagnosed early. |
