Anyone give Imodium A-D for diarrhea? Any give this to their Yorkie for Diarrhea? Couple weeks ago one of the older dogs got bloody Diarrhea and the vet recommended this. So I called today and they said go ahead and give it to Max who has loose stools(not runny just soft). But I gave at noon and they said 2 times a day but is it ok to give it now? He has the dry heaves too now and I'm figuring its from not eating or drinking all day. I'm going to see if I can get him to drink some before bed. He gets fixed on Monday so they said if he's still not good they will just do a check to figure this out. First bout had long hair in it so could be cat hair irritating his intestines...or he ate some wet cat food on Wed. night and this started the next day. Or my husband sprayed insecticide on our hibiscus trees to bring them indoors and Max was picking up the flowers as they dropped off. That's the one that worries me! My granddaughter dog :) just had a squeaker toy removed from her intestines. She was vomiting with loose stools too so hoping its not cat hair. He chases the cats and grabs their hair. I can see he's not feeling great but still wants to play a little. Just not sure how small he is and since its not runny bad diarrhea if I should give another dose to stay on top of the problem. |
The Imodium might not agree with his tummy if he is now vomiting. Watch him very closely -- small dogs can go down fast with vomiting and soft stools/diarrhea. Don't hesitate to go to the vet/ER if he is lethargic or has sticky, pale gums. Pancreatis is always a concern. When my Teddy has diarrhea, I prefer to feed him a bland diet of steamed chicken and white rice. Nothing else, no treats or kibble. That puts his system right again. I would personally hold off on neutering until he is back to 100%. |
The vet said he could come in and if not well they would see what's up and neuter later. I gave him some rice/ rice water and he gobbled it up but was only couple tablespoons. As he tolerated it I gave a little more then another helping b4 we headed upstairs for bed. But I found 2 spots inside that both were like water with a solid form in the center...not sure if it's vomit or diarrhea? Could be undigested food coming back up? When he goes outside he's going frequently ( remember how much poop can one puppy poop post 😀) About every hour and outside it's not watery at all so I'm guessing vomit inside? Last night met his cousin a chocolate lab pup that loves to knaw on him. He seemed to go back for more rough housing that's why we call him scrappy do! Thought that might have stressed him...they were playing really rough and the lab is 4 times Max's weight. Whiner boy would have cried uncle if he was getting hurt so I'm still leaning towards the cat food incident. |
Loose dog stools Hi there just following this thread. If its any help, we have discovered a brilliant ProBiotic for dogs that we use on our 2 Labs. We just mix in a couple of scoops into their food each day. It has helped with loose stools (yuk ) and gas plus I think they have much shinier coats . Its from Tippy Toes Pet Boutique and we got it on Amazon for about $35 here is a link if it helps you https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017WM4TSW |
