Slight Limp Last Saturday night my 8 month old, Gabe, jumped off the end of our bed. He did not cry out but was noticeably favoring his RIGHT FRONT leg. By the next morning he only limped for a few minutes after awakening and since then the leg has been fine. Now, I notice when he awakens from a nap and begins to walk he favors his RIGHT HIND leg. (I have not witnessed any other accidents since Saturday night.) There are no signs of discomfort and after a few seconds of walking it is completely gone. He runs, walks and prances without any sign of pain. However, I do notice that when he is eating he may not put his full weight on the leg, (not that he can't but he just doesn't.) Any suggestions as to what may be causing this? It doesn't seem normal to me. |
When Bella was a puppy she would try to do everything Ruby did. My bed is a matress on a box spring on the floor so they can get up and down easily (i'm also in college ;) ) and that was even too high for Bella to jump off and on because she was so small. I would try to watch her and if she wanted down i would pick her up and put her down instead of her jumping. Well sometimes she would just take off after Ruby when Ruby jumped off the bed and one time she hurt her front leg and was limping for a little bit. Later on that day she was fine, but she has done it a few times. These little dogs can really get hurt from a height that seems like nothing to us. I would take your yorkie to the vet if it has carried on to the next day. It seems like it may be more then just a little sprain if he is still favouring a certain paw and the fact it has changed to the back leg beats me  I would call your vet. keep us updated! |
A vet visit is in store for you because you need to rule out LP (luxating patella). |
I would have him checked for LP. HOPEFULLY it will be ruled out. |
same thing just happened to my chewie I just read your post and that is almost identical to what happened to my 4 month old just right now. We were walking and i was walking her and her older brother on thier seperate leash and the leashes got twisted so when one pulled the other went too. She was behind me walking and then whined a bit and sat down ..She wasn't putting any pressure on her right leg. Now she is walking fine and doesn't show any sign of pain. However, she does favor it a bit and I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow. I hope it's not LP. |
