Charlie'sMom | 09-26-2016 01:02 PM | Disk surgery, now kidney problems Charlie had 2 disks repaired on August 25. He was at UT Vet school for 5 days and walking within a week of coming home. He was wobbly, but had been so bad when surgery was done that it was expected to take him longer. He's been a trooper throughout all of it, staying in the crate at night and small doggy pen during the day.
Unfortunately, when Charlie's back went out, it was discovered that he has a mass on his left ureter affecting his left kidney. Vets tried to biopsy the mass but the location made it impossible, so I'm told. Because time was of the essence for his back, we went ahead with the surgery not knowing about the mass because as my husband said, I'd been through enough lately. My father passed away on August 11, just 10 months after my mother, and we moved our youngest child into his college dorm room on August 13. I think in his mind it was a small price to pay to keep me from falling apart. Plus, we love this dog. He's the family's baby.
Friday afternoon he had blood in his urine and is on Clavamox for it. It hasn't cleared up - actually seems worse - so we're taking him back in at 6 today to have blood serum levels checked. It may be time to treat the kidney issue even though he's just a month into healing for his back. Poor guy had finally gotten his personality back and now seems withdrawn again.
Wish us luck! |
