Anyone else have issues with Interceptor Plus?? Teddy is severely sick...Went to the vet for normal check up and shots. He received Interceptor Plus for his second time. First time he vomited about three times and then was fine...This time, however, he has been vomiting and diarrhea. Won't eat, and barely drank anything. Took him to vet and said he had hook worms...3 days earlier he didn't😒 Took him home and he continued to be sick. Took him to ER and he had to stay 24 hrs for fluid and treatment of possible PARVO. 24 hrs later they said he was good and ready to go home. Brought him home and he's NOT GOOD!! Still the same issues. Spoke with the breeder and we discovered it could be from the Interceptor Plus. He is my heart and I need him to get better😭😭 How long will this last??? What can I do for him?? I've given Pedialyte, tried Nutrical and nothing is helping.... I'm at a complete loss.... |
Poor Teddy! How old is he and how much does he weigh? If I understand the Interceptor website correctly, Interceptor is suppose to "treat and control" hookworms. Did you vet confirm that? Did the vet test for Parvo to confirm or rule it out? Parvo isn't something that is treated and cured in 24 hours. Reactions to Interceptor are possible, as with any med or preventative. What is the vet's recommendation? I would definitely switch to another heartworm preventative in the future. We use Heartgard Plus. |
He's 11 weeks old. He was tested for Parvovirus and was negative. He seemed to be better this morning. Eating and almost acting himself until he started getting sick again about 30 min or so. Vet said to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. I'm definitely NEVER giving him Interceptor Plus again. Vet said Interceptor was for 5 types of worms and was a preventative. It's my understanding, pure breeds tend to have more trouble with it than most |
Sorry...he weighs 3 lbs |

My understanding is that heartworm preventatives like Interceptor should not be given to puppies -- although I started my Max on one when when he was 13 weeks old and 3 pounds, per my vet's recommendation. Our breeder doesn't start the heartworm preventative until 6 months of age. Your Teddy has had Interceptor twice now at 11 weeks. That might be part of the problem. Did your vet rule out parvo? Parvo is very serious. Is he still vomiting? Lethargic? Being so young and so small, as you know, you need to keep a close eye on him and don't hesitate to go back to the vet. |
Ruled out PARVO and waiting prescription for more nausea meds. Stopped getting sick and was acting almost like himself again until 20 min ago...now vomiting again. Vet said he may have caught a virus or something. If he isn't better by this afternoon, he will have to go to them for a few days so she can monitor him. Thank you so much for talking with me about this. Kind of feel alone and trying to be supermom to him..Bless his heart... He still try to be loving and wants to be held❤ |

My little Titan RIP had seizures on intercepter. Spent thousands of dollars to figure this out. He had his 1st intercepter in April. Had the seizure. He never had another heart worm treatment for 6 months. Started giving him heart guard and he never had another seizure. Hope he gets better soon. |
Thank you for checking on him!! Much much better!! I feel it was probably the Interceptor and or something he got into outside... He's a vacuum for leaves and sticks I'll ask the vet about hartguard. He's such a good puppy...I would die if anything happened to him. Hope you guys have a wonderful day!!❤ |

My Teddy also likes to vacuum up things he shouldn't eat. Ugh! Definitely check into switching to Heartgard or one of the other heartworm preventatives. |
I most definitely will!! Thank you!! Does your Teddy like snails too?? Smh... it's like he hunts for them |
