Broken Jaw My little 7 year old, Dakota broke his jaw last time hitting up into a table. It is a small fracture of his upper jaw (above his 3 top front teeth). He has no pain at all - no problem eating or drinking or barking. His jaw moves and he's licking like crazy (normal for him). We have been referred to a vet dentist and will call on Momday. It appears in some dogs they can treat/heal with bedrest and soft food for 8-12 weeks. He had an FCE stroke a year ago and we were/are hesitant to put him under for a dental. The FCE testing showed a skull fracture and I wonder if it's related and was aggravated by it. I will follow up on Monday with the dentist, but wanted to see if anyone has insight. I'm taking his normal non-painful response as a positive! |
Sorry...no experience here. Good luck at the dental appointment! |
I think if everything checks out a-okay, including all bloodwork, I'd be comfortable putting him under if it were me. But I can totally understand your hesitation too. So they don't wire the jaw or anything huh? |

I have used a vet dentist a few times....she always looks over all medical records first....sometimes she requires further testing before she will anesthetize a pup for a dental. Very thorough....I know that 107barney's vet dentist is the same way. |
Yes - I will heed the advice of the dentist. The stroke weakened the intercostal of his lung on the right side. He's doing well, so I'm holding on to that. It may be that he loses his top 3 teeth. Will update when I hear more! Thanks - |
I hope everything goes well for you and your baby. Sounds like you are doing everything for your fur kid you are a great mom! Susan |
