I'm so sorry to hear about Remy. I lost my previous yorkie Coco back in 2009 to the same disease. She managed to live 3 months after diagnosis. It was devastating to me and I spent a fortune keeping her going. I had lost my father to pancreatic cancer 5 years prior and he was given 6 months and it ended up being 3 - so going through this with Coco was like having to relive that. There is nothing you can do except suppress the immune system and make the most of the days you have left. Coco gained 2 lbs in that short time from the predizone (sp?) the vet gave me grief for that but I was in no way putting my dying dog on a diet. When she was overweight at 6 pounds strangers still kept commenting that she was the smallest dog they've seen. She was an absolute sweet heart it was so tragic to go through. My biggest recommendation is to not fly with her. My vet never warned me so when I took a 3 hour flight to move to a new city for work when we got off the plane she was unable to walk anymore. I figure the cabin pressure must have done something to her (she was in the cabin). I had no idea she was panting like she was warm but not upset. When I got off the plane and realized she couldn't walk my brother and i left my luggage at the airport and went straight to the emergency animal hospital. We kept her there overnight but she never got better and I had to say goodbye to her the next day. They let me hold her in the special room and then after a half hour they came in to give her the injection. They said it wouldn't hurt but she ended up screaming. It was a completely tragic ending to a completely tragic story. I feel so sorry for you I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and am only sharing my story to help prepare you for the worst and warn you about flying.

I am so very sorry for the heart break this horrible illness has caused both of you. I know you understand my pain, we are sisters in a group that I wish never existed.

I haven't posted in awhile ... it is just heart breaking at times to watch Remy struggle. When I do post about improvement it seams the next day she takes a dive.

At this time Remy is doing well. She is FAT-- we call her our micor pig. She was 4 lbs at 1 year and went up to about 5 which was perfect. Now she is looking at 9 lbs. My dh feeds her treats all the time. I guess he is right..yolo

She was sooo very sick with the injury to her shoulder. But it seams to have healed (try convincing my dh what crate rest is ugh) and she is her spunky self... just a cubbier version :eek:

It has been 5 months. She gets shots every 4 weeks and the steroids. The dose has been reduced to 1/4 every 3 days..we will see.

Thank you for the advice about flying. I was going to take her with me to Chicago to visit my daughter but now I will not. My dh is staying home with the fur butts anyway.

This makes me feel so much better. After ultra sounds/MRI'/ ruling out liver and more I finally have a diagnosis of encephalitis. And will begin the shots soon. It is so overwhelming but to hear your story makes me feel so much better. My girl is 9 months old and it started at 3 months so it has been a long process ,meds diet,appts. and er visits.
