Red Hot Skin Saturday my husband and I took our yorkie Kinder outside we just sat outside. I ran Kinder on the cement driveway I do not want her on the lawn. We live in the country coyotes pee in the grass etc. Anyways 2:30 am Sunday which is yesterday she started scratching and could not sleep. All day Sunday her skin got red and hot feeling. Her privates swelled and very red around it. I called my vet and told me to put her on Benadryl but by 9:00 pm she was scratching and crying. We brought her in at 9pm and she was given a steroid shot. I was told to keep her on the Benadryl but still today she is itchy. She had no temperature and my doctor thought it was a bug bite. I know the flies were biting and drawing blood but I am puzzled. She has been chewing by her leg but I really can not find a spot. I feed her Fromms Whitefish and Potatoe. Has anyone gone through with this? I know 2 years ago she had this happen in July but the steroid shot cleared her up. She is 6 years old and my fur baby we are so worried. Susan |
Deff sounds like an allergy of some kind. You need to let your vet know that her symptoms are still very bad. You can do a Chamomile Tea rinse on her to help sooth that hot skin. Just steep 5 or 6 teabags, let cool & pour that into a gallon jug or bucket & fill the rest of the way with warm water & pour it over her, no need to rinse but if you feel the need to rinse it off then just be sure to leave it on her for at least 10 min before you rinse. With my little ones I just pour the tea into the kitchen sink & fill it about 1/4 full of warm water & use a cup to pour in on the dog & I just keep pouring until the water starts to get too cold. I hope this helps, I hate the misery allergies can bring to our babies. |
Sounds like an allergy to something at this time of year. For Benadryl to remain effective, it must be given every 4-6 hours bc it has such a short half-life. I'd trying giving it like that for 2 days and see what happens. |
Thank you for helping me. She is still pinkish on her belly. Tomorrow morning she goes in to see my vet so I will see what he says. The Benadryl seems to make her nervous and awake all night but I will keep her on it.Susan |
