Lots of blood in stool...could this be his new dog food Nulo My baby (7yr old Meeko) started a new dog food about 2 wks ago. I used to feed him Blue Buffalo senior for dogs with food and skin sensitivities. While picking up a new bag a rep convinced me that Nulo has better more nutritional ingredients...at first all seemed fine but the past 3 days he went from normal stool to watery. Had 2 accidents in his crate (which only happens if he's not feeling well). This morning I find diarrhea with blood all over it and even droppings of blood coming away from it. I am so worried. I am going to take him to the vet today but I am sooooo upset that this could be just bc I changed his dog food? Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be just a coincidence? ....Feeling GUILTY in GA... |
Don't feel guilty...all you were trying to do was something good for his nutrition. But yup, head to the vet - and put him immediately back on his old food to see if it resolves. |

I hope that your baby is ok. It can be a minor reaction to the food and nothing more serious. I want to share my experience with my dog's bloody stools. My Pixie swallowed a match, after breaking it in half. It came out entirely in her stools but it caused damage along her digestive tract. First, we saw a few spots of blood in her stools and then bigger clots. We got scared and took her to ER. She had x-rays to double check if there was another object blocking her intestines. She didn't have anything else. The doctors put her in a bland diet and a told me to buy Pepcid. It took her about a week to get better and have normal stools. Good luck with your baby |
Get a vet soon Get a vet at the earliest. I guess you must have already attended to it. Always remember that bright red blood in stool is probably from dog's rectum or colon. Normaly a vet would suggest you to go for hematochezia. Not sure if you can avail guidance from animal control specialists like hawkeye (Animal Control Toronto | Wildlife Relocation Service | Hawkeye) . Give a try since they rehabilitate injured animals they might help you in this matter too. I pray for fast recovery of your dog. Check out for more details at pethelpful.com |
