Neurological Issue I just returned home from the vet with my 12 year old yorkie. Throughout the day she has had trouble walking and it seemed like her legs just didn't want to work correctly. She is in no pain and eating and drinking fine, but the vet said that it is some sort of neurological issue. Either she got into something that is causing it or it could be something worse like a tumor. She got fluids and an anti-inflammtory, but now it's just a waiting game to see if she gets better. Has anyone had any experience with a situation like this? Thanks so much. |
I had a similar situation with my then 13 year old (he's 15 now) is it the back or the front legs?? Mine had issues with the back legs and he couldn't stand or walk. Turned out to be lymes disease. He was better within the first dose of antibiotics. Best wishes I hope it's something simple and treatable. |
Were x-rays taken ? as this can also be disc issues. Disc issues may or may not show on x-rays but at 12 it most likely will show. I have an 18 yr old cat with front end issues, a 16 yr old dog with middle & rear end issues & a 13 yr old dog with all of the above & they all see the animal Chiropractor once a mo to keep them pain free & up & running. |
I have friends with Yorkies who experienced the same symptoms, one with Lyme disease as Kerryn's pup had, and others with back and disc issues. The ones with back issues recovered with steroids and weeks of strict crate/stroller rest. Sending well wishes for your girl. Keep us updated. |
