My dog has a lump???? I came home from school and greeted my dog and I was petting him as he was laying on me. I noticed that while I was petting him he had a round bump on his back but down where his legs are. I checked the other side and there's no bump so its deadline toy not a bone for sure. What could it be? Could he have been bitten hy a mosquito? Or is it because of the vaccine the vet gave him which was near that area? I'm concerned and idk what to do. How much would it cost for a vet to check this? |
Could be many things, from a bug bite to a sebaceous cyst or a lot of other things. Doubtful that it is from the vaccine unless it is at the exact injection spot. Is it flesh colored or red? How big? |

1/2 inch is fairly sizeable. I would want the vet to take a look. When did your pup have the vaccination? It could be the injection site. Teddy had sizeable lump once that our vet and I believe was a spider bite, or it could have been a bee sting. It was flesh colored, between his shoulder blades. Cost of our vet visit was a routine exam and we received meds, a topical and oral. |
My last Yorkie had a bump under his belly bout that size. It turned out to be a fatty deposit which I think is more common in older dogs. I've also heard the rabies shot can cause lumps. I would definitely have your vet look at it. |
Our pup, years ago, acquired an infection at an injection site. Vets do not typically sanitize the area prior to injections, and dogs can roll in some nasty stuff. Honestly, I am not sure why there are not more infections at injection sites. Hers started out as a bump, then with antibiotics, it drained. Then, the fur never would grow back over that area. It was about the size of a nickle on an 11lb dog. I do all our pups/poochies vaccines now (except rabies) and I sanitize the area first. |
My boy always gets injection site lump that lasts a few days..hope that is all it is.. |
