Prednisone Experiences Has anyone ever had to give their Yorkie this drug for any reason and how was it? My Rex will start this weekend for possible brain issue/auto immune disease. He is almost 14 so we ruled out MRI as I would not operate at this point. I do hear this drug helps quite a bit?? reactions?? |

You will more than likely notice an increase appetite. They also drink and pee more when on pred. They also sometimes pant a lot. |
I honestly believe that prednisone saved my girl's life when she was ill. But, just as ladyjane posted, it makes them urinate all the time. Piccolo's body even looked different. But, I would do it all over again. Thinking about you and your pup. |

Should I be home the day we start it? I usually am in and out 1-2 hours here and there but am worried..And is this a temporary drug? Maybe wee wee pads... |

As for temporary or permanent, it depends. You should speak with your vet about that. My guess is for your baby it will be permanent. I use pee pads ... if your pup is used to them, it would be good to have them on hand. |
I think it's a good idea to stay home the 1st couple of days. Yorkies systems are so delegant I would want to keep an eye open. My little one was on this drug for almost 2 years. It definitely helps, but in the beginning he was very hungry & thirsty. Took about 14 months to stable his bladder. He was still very hungry till about 2 months before he left us. I just let him eat whenever he wanted. The extra weight didn't matter. Just wanted him to be happy as long as possible. Even today with our 15 month old boy, I stay home when given heart worm, frontline, vaccinas. You never know if some kind of reaction may pop up. |

An MRI would give a diagnosis & more research on the issue. |
My Sissy has GME and they put her on predisone to start and she would crash every 2 weeks. They switched her over to dexamethsone and she made it to the 3 week mark and still going...GL to you and your furbaby.. It is sad to see them suffer with this. |

My DIL did it with her pup who suddenly went blind one day and was stumbling . She was 13 and they knew that even if it were a lesion, they would not put her through surgery. She responded very well to the prednisone...actually got her sight back! They had about 7 months of quality time with her after that. I hope your baby responds to the prednisone... |
I wanted to let everyone know that my beloved is no longer with us as of last night. His symptoms were worsened to the point complete blindness and non stop circling no hearing and complete anxiety.I had ro make the choice out of love.I am so empty inside today...thank u for all your reaponses in my yime of need..Kathy RIP REX |
Oh, Kathy, I am so sorry. I know it doesn't help your pain right now, but your boy did live a long life and was clearly very loved right up to the end when you had to make that final loving decision. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers... RIP Rex |
