Grape Jam ...is this an emergency? My seven pound 6 year old Yorkie ate two very small bites of a cream cheese and Welchs grape JAM sandwich that were left on a plate. I gave her milk to coat her stomach – as I didn’t know what to do when I saw they were gone. The first ingredient on the Jam is Concord Grapes,Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Fruit Pectin, Citric Acid and Sodium Citrate. This seems to be a lot more grape than anything else..should I bring her to a vet right away? |
YES, you need to contact the ER as grapes are toxic to dogs. Praying you have already done this. |
Yes, I would at least call an emergency clinic for advice. |
Thanks... I called the Vet and they asked if she was acting strange (?) vomiting, not urinating, excessively drinking or being lethargic. The said a little won't hurt her and if she starts doing any of that to bring her in. I am a mess and after the call I went on Just Ask and paid for another opinion...of course I haven't heard from them and instead of $5 deposit and then full charge of 19 after the vet answers - they charged me a full $19 and I still have no answer. I sat at the computer until 4:30a.m. and fell asleep there watching the dog. No answer as of this morning. She started to dry heave this morning ( but she has done this when she hasn't eaten a lot the day before - happens frequently) and she throws up yellow bile. She didn't throw up the bile. She appears as weird as she always does ( she's a weird pup anyway- snorty, sniffy, anxious, etc. ) I just called my own vet and the the tech said the same thing as above. I'm still a nervous wreck. |
I hope your baby is feeling better today. As for the vomiting bile, this due to an empty tummy. Try giving a snack at bedtime & see if this helps. I have 2 that I have to feed 3 meals a day as they can't go any longer then about 6 hrs without food. |
Thanks, she is better. She is a very picky eater, though. We feed her Pet Fresh with a topper of less than a teaspoon of boiled chicken shreds mixed with very very lean ground beef sprinkles. She has the option of Blue Buffalo dry at all times ( which she usually eats a few before bed). Vet says this diet is fine as long as we don't over do the topper- it's been years of looking for the right combo of every kind of feeding- this is it so far. She is anxious and finicky with an odd love of dairy- which we learned after Vets suggestion to give a bit of milk during a stomach issue she was having. Three rooms away from the stairs in the downstairs den she will fly up the stairs if she hears someone lifting the gallon of milk of the fridge. It's BIZARRE. I never know what's going on with her due to her anxiety- hardest dog I ever "parented". |
