(New To This Site) - Yorkie Nerve Issue? Hi Everyone..' As implied, I'm new to this site and I Just really could use some help. My Yorkie is named Allen, He's 6 years old (Just turned 6 in April on the 14th). He has developed a sensitive spot right between the shoulder blades and tends to flinch a lot often when we go to pat him or touch that spot. He blinks his eyes a lot as well and squints as if its something in them.. maybe its his allergies? That's what I thought since he's been outside in the back yard and they tend to cut the grass once or twice a week.. He does have a microchip between the shoulder blades too. I heard it can be difficult to remove one from a dog - I wish I had known that when I was younger because I would've told my mother not to get it.. I also heard it can cause cancer in some dogs. I'm a worry wort when it comes to my dogs. I don't know what could be wrong with him. I'm considering taking him to the vet this week to see if they can help. Just hope it doesn't cost too much because I can't afford vet bills. He's going into surgery for his teeth fairly soon as well. So that also has me worried for his safety under anesthesia. |
I would take him to the vet regarding this discomfort if it continues. As for anesthesia, if your vet is using up to date anesthetic protocols there is so little risk. There is a higher risk of death due to heart or kidney issues due to periodontal disease than that of anesthesia. I have heard the rumors, but have yet to see it and I see a lot of pups. I also don't know why anyone would want to remove one...they are great for reuniting lost pets with their families. Well I'm thinking of taking him in this week between Thursday or Friday. And, As for the Microchips; Microchips: Are Pet Owners Being Misled? - Dogs Naturally Magazine You can read here about it. Not everything can be a rumor just because we don't hear about it happening right? I'd want to remove it if it causes him problems and makes him uncomfortable. As dogs get older I'm sure the chip is capable of moving around. So it may cause discomfort in the one spot since he flinches whenever we touch right there.. and then go to stroke down his back. That's what led me to believe it's possibly the chip causing his discomfort. :( That or Allergies. Maybe his eyes are itchy or something and it causes him to flinch when being patted out of the blue..? I don't know but hopefully we'll see the vet very soon. |
The story about Charlie Brown made me stop reading that article. I found it to be unbelievable...a subcutaneous microchip made him bleed out? No one happened to see him bleeding? Please. My pups are, and will continue to be, microchipped. My suggestion is a vet now...not "very soon". But, perhaps you don't think it is serious enough for that. He could have neck and/or back issues. So, there you have it, my thoughts. |
:P I agree a Vet Soon, because I'm not able to just go out and see one right then and now. Sorry, Not everyone is capable of having enough money for medical bills when being a college student. And as far as a lot of others have told me, It doesn't seem serious at all however I thought it would be nice to get someone's Opinion on here - as long as it was a Polite Way. Uhm I got my dog when I was 14 years old, How on earth was I to get a credit card prior to getting my dog that was a gift? I've taken care of him and never has he needed to see a doctor in his entire life besides for shots. He's been in good health ever since. He isn't acting Abnormal to the point where it is an Emergency. Otherwise I would have posted a thread in the Emergency Section of this Website. He's Eating, Drinking, Using the Bathroom and everything else like normal. The only problem I'm having is that when I go to pat him he flinches - not jerks away. Just a flinch here and there. So yes I do indeed think its something I can check on when my Mother is Off work. I just recently gathered $700 for his Dental Surgery. I'm a Full Time Student while staying at home and tending to my dogs due to Social Anxiety and other problems with Depression. So my Dogs always Do come first whenever I do get money in hand along with drawing for Money too. Every bit of anything I get goes to my dogs because I don't have a problem with doing things for them. My dog will be Fine. Thank you. |
