Rash/Bald Patch 1 Attachment(s) Around maybe 5/6 months ago Poppy developed a bald patch on her side. I took her to the vet and they took a sample of the skin and came back to say it was not infected and was an allergy to something and gave me a shampoo to use. Around the same time I noticed whenever I gave her chicken she was constipated and had a really noisy tummy for days. I stopped the chicken, hair grew back relatively well and I thought all was good. About 30 mins ago she was sleeping next to me and I noticed the bald patch is back! It looks the same as before. She definitely hasn't had any chicken so I'm not sure what has caused it this time. I've attached a picture of her skin if anyone can help. I haven't noticed her scratching a lot she always has been a dog who scratches though. |
Have you checked for any products derived from chicken in food and treats? Any family members maybe fed a scrap of it when they forgot? I have a chi with chicken problems and it seems to be in everything. Chicken fat, chicken meal, poultry meal (what kind of poultry?!). One time my SO forgot he was allergic and gave him a piece of chicken breast and it sent his skin into a total freak out. Also my chi is allergic to pollen. I am not sure what the season there is, but here it is springtime and the air is full of it right now. |
I will need to have a look through all her stuff to double check. Since writing the initial post my little brother has admitted that he dropped a piece of chicken about 2 weeks ago and she got it, about 1/4 of a chicken breast! Not sure if that could cause the rash to come back but I will call the vet first thing tomorrow and ask for another prescription of the shampoo that worked before. Will also double check everything she gets for any traces of chicken. The brother is well warned to be more careful with his food now! Thanks for reply. |
dog Little dee dee had a bald spot on her side. Vet has her eating royal canin hydrolyzed protein plus using the wet food that is the same. Also wellactin for her skin. Liquid. Well vet changed food to royal canin ultimino . We add some wet royal canin hydrolyzed protein for flavor. Finally her coat is nice no bald spots. It is an allergy to some food and I hope your vet will work with you to find out what works for your precious dog. |
That could absolutely cause this! My boy only needs to eat it once to flare up- he looses his hair and itches, his skin flakes, and prolonged exposure (such as the seasonal allergens) cause his skin to turn a dark color. I use an oatmeal shampoo that helps a lot to soothe his itching. |
dog You should see dee Dees coat. Full and no bald spot. She eats that hypoallergenic food . It really helps. We are hoping to change over to a regular dog food that won't cause itching. I use hylyte shampoo that I get at the vet. Prayers for healing for your dog. |
Are there crusty flakes in that picture...??? Kinda looks like seborrhea to me, in a way...? Was that explored? With hair loss, I'd always want to check thyroid levels, rule out Cushings, and explore allergies. More on allergies here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html |
She has been on Royal Canin sensitive food for about 4 months now and that had helped. She was always a really spewy pup but since changing to that she is hardly every sick. Yes there are dry flakes on it Wylies Mum - I'm not sure if seborrhea has been checked they did use tape to take a sample of the crusty skin so I will check exactly what they tested for. It doesn't seem to bother her at all I would just rather know what it is incase I'm giving her something that is making her uncomfortable. Thanks for all the help :) |
