Yorkie just got spayed - tried to jump on couch Hi there.. I'm new here on YorkieTalk. I have a yorkie named Miles (age 3) and a half yorkie half mini doberman pinscher named Lettie (6 months). My little Lettie just got spayed today. Less than an hour after I brought her home I let her out of her crate to go to the bathroom. Once she was done she was sitting on my lap on a blanket and couldn't get comfortable so she got up. I was sitting on the floor and she tried to run right over and jump on the couch. She did it before I even had a second to tell her not to. She failed and fell on the ground, poor thing. She didn't whine but was shaking after. I comforted her and put her right back in her crate. I looked at the incision, the stitches are dissolvable, and didn't see any blood. Do I need to call my vet. I hate to be the panicked mom who calls the vet at every little thing. She's napping now and isn't shaking at all. |
Welcome to YT,if that was my pup, I would have been on the phone with my vet. The vet may be able to tell you symptoms to look for if there was serious injury. |
Maybe leash her when she comes out of her crate to go potty, so she cant hurt herself....they have no concept of limitations, and will do things that are not in their best interest! Just watch that incision/suture line...if you see any pouchiness tell your vet....she could have torn inside stitches and that results in a little hernia...dont let her jump at all, whatever it takes! There may be a little drainage at the incision site....even a little blood...but anything steady, even a trickle, needs to be seen. |
I reached out to my vet and she said that she isn't concerned. She told me to keep and eye on the incision and make sure it's not swollen or puffy and to bring her in tomorrow if I'm worried. She said the jump probably didn't do anything, but advised I keep her in her kennel. Lettie jumps on EVERYTHING and hates being in the kennel... this is going to be a hard 10 days. Miles, my yorkie, was Mr. Cautious and took it easy after his neutering. Easy easy. Lettie is already a different story. Thanks for the advise! I'm a worrier when it comes to the little pups. |
