ultrasound Hi All.... GiGi collapsed on Friday morning...rushed her to the Vet...took blood work and x-rays. We found she has some sort of lump on her stomach or kidneys...could be inside or attached to the outside of the organ. I now have to take her to a specialist that does ultrasound on dogs. The Vet recommended one but his hours are difficult and I will have to loose a days pay (during my busy season....and of course if there is no other option I will) and I am not sure I will like him. Does anyone know a specialist in New Jersey (northeast)..maybe I can get one that is a little more flexible with hours. So far I will be paying $700.00 for him to look at her stomach and heart (which is enlarged but has been since she is at least 4years old, as far as I know). Don't want to wait too long to get her to a specialist... she is doing fine now...good sprits and eating well (but aren't they always). Thanks for your help if anyone knows of a doctor they would recommend. Tina |
You can always go to a vet college in your State....I do not know where yours is located....but I would absolutely be looking for specialist at this point. |

You can not do much better than a reputable vet school! The best equipment, most up to date equipment, best instructors and professors, etc.... I really do my own research and often will select people that I personally have researched....I have seen "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours" friendships among doctors and vets, often not the best selections to have been relied on....I like to get my OWN second opinions, from people that I have researched myself...and long before specialists in vet medicine came into existence, I was beating a path to A&M vet school for treating my pets and my horses....cant do much better than a vet school and the staff there! They TEACH your vet everything he knows!!! |

There were three named "vet schools"....Rutgers University-New Brunswick, and then two other colleges were named....dont know quality...dont even know about the vet school at Rutgers, but there is one apparently advertised as being there? |
U.Penn. or Cornell |

Thank you Ladyjane and all the other committed doggy lovers for your help, understanding and concern. I will begin to go thru the list to see which one will suit us best and go from there I will check in with you all periodically to let you know how we are doing and how GiGi is coming along. Thanks so much again for all your help and caring Tina |
Hi All.... Been a while since we first posted regarding my GiGi's xray and need to be checked with an ultrasound specialist. She has been ok since we spoke one or 2 small bouts of loose stool that cleared up "pretty" fast. I looked thru the list and decided on a specialist...I am taking GiGi to Dr. Zaid in Raritan, NJ. I liked the fact that he specializes in small dogs, he is an internist, I chose him from the list provided by ladyjane. Wish us luck I am hoping that he will say he has some medication she can take for her tummy when she gets feeling funny. We have a 10am appointment...the consultation will take an hour and the ultrasound can take from 20min to one hour. thanks for all your help. Be back soon Tina |
Thanks for letting us know, Tina....I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope all goes well for GiGi! |
Will be eager to hear! |
Hi all..... We got a very good report. I liked the specialist very much he specialized in small dogs and is very attentive and through. He said that GiGi internal organs etc are fine. He said that the thickness of her stomach and other organs are normal and doesn't see any lumps, etc. He does not recommend any medication and to continue controlling (what he thinks is IBS) with diet. If there comes a point where diet does not work then we will have to go to medication but for now we are fine. I emailed him her x-rays from when we went to her Vet and we looked at them together...he said that the lump we see on the side of her stomach in the x-ray was nothing more than a full belly...and he also called it a tremendous amount of food, lol. GiGi can really pack it away and sometimes FAST,lol Well I am glad I went and to this doctor also...he is at Animerge in Raritan , NJ his name is Zaid. So $900 later (between her local Vet and the Specialist) I am mentally at ease, lol ;) Thanks so much for your help and support through this difficult and confusing time. Hugs.... Tina and GiGi |
SO happy to hear this wonderful report!!! |
