Easier medication method Danny had some baby teeth removed this past week. I'm having a hard time giving him liquid antibiotics. I don't want to cause him any pain when giving him the antibiotic. I'm sure his mouth is sore from the surgery. Any suggestions on an easier way to give him medicine? |
What kind of antibiotic did they give you? Amoxicillin (what we used to call "pink bubble gum medicine when I was giving it to my son for tonsillitis!) liquid taste great and my dogs actually will swallow it down easily when I dropper it into the back side of the mouth....it lands on the back of the tongue and they automatically swallow it....be sure you are holding pup so they dont just spit it out and you never realize it......... |

Funny enough, the one that worked best for us was found on YouTube! See what you can find! It totally made giving my pup liquid and pill form meds easy! Good luck!:aimeeyork |

You can still use a dropper and dispense it into the back side of his mouth....it runs into the back of his throat and he has to swallow it! |

Hold him up tight against you....stand by the kitchen cabinet so he can stand also on the cabinet....hold him on your left arm/side....use your left hand to secure his head up against your left chest....how large is this dog we are talking about? Hold his head between your left hand and against your left chest. Use the dropper/syringe, and insert the syringe tip in the back corner of his mouth, that will be his left side of his mouth....no need tyo OPEN his mouth, just insert the syringe into the side of his mouth, way at the back corner.......you are holding his head tightly against your left chest, squirting the medicine into his left side of his mouth, close to the back of his throat.....hold him tightly and he will swallow it.....then give him a favorite treat BEFORE you put him down....if he is pissed and wont take it from you right then, set him down and then go ahead and give it to him....do this every single time you give him a dose....he will get better. |
