2 am in the morning here, Pippi at vets. 1 Attachment(s) We rushed Pippi to the emergency vet a little while ago. She just pooped a large amount a of blood. She'd been unwell today, a little diarrhoea throughout the day, not so playful and not wanting to eat. (Her not wanting to eat, happens easily, if we have any changes ie visitors) I'd syringe fed her some chicken, with broth. We'd planned to take her to the vets later today, once they opened.. but after seeing the blood, we phoned up the emergency vet and took her straight in. She's a little dehydrated and has a bit of a temperature. She'd just drunk some water and then thrown it up, before the poop of blood. She's been put on a drip. Now we have to wait till 9:30am to hear any news. I know she's in the right place, but it was awful leaving her. She climbed up me, clinging and shaking, once she saw the vets. Wish we knew what was wrong. Vet mentioned irritation to her stomach. Please have little Pip in your thoughts. Caleb's been looking for her and crying. Usually he doesn't sleep, until he knows she's settled. |
Oh, I am so sorry. It is awful when we have to leave a furkid. We know it's for the best, but that doesn't make it any easier for our baby or us. Please keep us posted. Praying for you all. |
I hope it all goes ok. It's great that she is on an IV. Willie had a bout of bloody diarrhea and vomiting several weeks ago. After they put him on an IV, we saw a dramatic improvement. |
Sending prayer and hugs! |
I am so sorry about your sick little fella....but you couldnt have done any better! He is at the vet, he is getting fluid replacement, and they can get him diagnosed and treated effectively....I know it killed you to leave him overnight....he should be much better, all tanked up in the am....please come back and keep us informed about what is happening.... |
Poor Pippi....hope she is doing better now.... |
Phoned vets. Pip's temperature is down. She's still on the drip. They walked her, but she's not pooped or eaten. They can't get her to eat, but she is picky, especially when stressed. As for pooping, she's probably on empty. Vets are in consultation, but will phone with update soon. Thanks for all the good thoughts they mean a lot. We have visitors today, but they are animal lovers, so will understand, plus they love Pip too. My mind won't be on anything else. Caleb's curled in a ball, on my lap. So far he's not done his morning pee or poop, he's looked for her and then cries. Will post any updates. |
Awww, the poor little baby...I so hope she feels better soon! Was pancreatitis discussed...? |
Prayers going out for Pippi. |

She didn't say anything about pancreatic issues. Vet phoned as I was posting... Her levels are normal now, so not dehydrated. Still not eating or drinking on her own. (I know Pip, so made a suggestion, that usually gets her going, once she's gone off food) She's just done another bloody poop. They want to keep her in and keep an eye on her, but didn't say anything else. Vet had to go, they sound very busy. She'll phone again at 4. Hopefully with more of an idea about what is actually wrong. Anything I should be asking? |
A p.s. to the above post... Pip didn't show any signs of tummy ache. When the vet checked her over, she also didn't appear to hurt anywhere. Unlike Caleb, she usually lets you know when she's hurting, very sensitive to touch. So I hope that's a good sign. As pancreatitis is painful, isn't it? |
Sounds like HGE to me.....but all her blood work is ok?? Sometimes they can eat something...even a tiny blade of grass and bleed. Years ago one of my pups did that ... he scared the heck out of me when I woke up he was pooping blood all over. Overnight at the vet and he was fine....I ended up thinking it was from a sunflower seed. My bird always tossed them at the dogs. |

I keep having to remind hubby, to stick to dog treats and not give table food. We buy ( Pet Munchies ) Munchies 100% duck is her favourite, I cut it up into tiny slithers, so it goes far and is just a quick reward when training. Kev started sneaking cheese to Caleb, which got me pissed with him, till we had words. Caleb gave the game away, as soon as Kev opened the cheese pack in the kitchen, Caleb would dive in there and beg. He never begged before. First Kev denied it, but Caleb was proving him wrong. So that's stopped. Pip lucky doesn't like cheese or most human food. We can't ever be sure they've not eaten something they shouldn't when outside, but we've not seen her eat anything she shouldn't. |

We do give green peas, green beans and carrots, Pip loves them more than Caleb does. She seems to have a preference for healthy foods, thank goodness. They are keeping her over night. She is still not drinking or eating. Still has bleeding. I'm lost without her and a bit scared, but know she's in the right place. We'll phone again tonight, and see if we can talk to the vet on watch. We thought about going in to feed her, but think it'll upset her even more. Caleb is crying loudly, when ever anyone comes home without her. He searches around them, when they walk in. Then climbs on my lap, crying loudly and almost giving a cry sort of howl. Never seen him like this before. Kev's just had to go out again, it couldn't be avoided. So he'll be getting upset again later. :( |
