He does not take a walk or do much of anything I need some advise If I put him down I will feel quilty but as he is I do not get much out of him, Lorry need advice |
You said he sleeps a lot, but does he eat, drink, does he go out to eliminate, does he know you? |
This post makes me sad. It almost seems like he doesn't give you enough and are looking to put him down because of it. You say you "don't get much out of him" but what are you wanting to get out of him? At that age I would just be looking for companionship. Having him lay on my lap, or cuddle in bed for warmth. You didn't say if he has any illness, so I assume he is just old and doesn't play or walk. If he's not facing any serious medical condition, I'd say it's not fair for you to put him down. I also think it'd be unfair for you to give him up to a shelter or rescue at this age. He is likely at the end of his life. He should live out his final days/years in the hold he knows and is comfortable in. But to answer your question, usually you will know when to put down is when the good days outnumber the bad days. How bad is bad, only you will know. |

srappy Scrappy had a tumor that nothing can be down, He does not hear when you call. He urinates in the kitchen, he cannot get off the steps.if you carry him down he just stands tthere; He will go on the deck but he justs stands there do not think he knows what to do I am 88yrs old have a problem walking. I am not making excuses but he does not eat like he used too. I do not want him to suffer, about knowing us, he does not see well or hear. It is hard at my age to handle scrappy > I wish he could walk a little better but we will try. Lorry |
You may want to try diapers on him. One of the families who adopted one of my fosters had a spot for senior dogs. They had one boy about Scrappy's age. Blind, could hardly walk, and couldn't control his bladder. They used newborn human diapers on him. Worked well until he passed in his sleep. I just worry about letting him go too early, or giving him up at that age to be put into foster care, which most likely would be permanent foster care. |
I would of gave anything to have my Keally for 16 years. I would not care if she peed all over I loved her so much. Just to have her alive and not suffering I would of been happy. Sounds like you just want to put him down. I don't know but you sure are blessed to have your baby that long.Susan |
