Is it seizures? Today my 7 year old Sammy had an episode that I believe could be a seizure. We've never experienced what we did today before. He was laying on my lap. And then just started shaking uncontrollably. You could really see his head shake... his body more of a shiver. I held him tight near my chest and tried to calm him. This shaking lasted about 2 minutes. Once he wasn't shaking anymore I looked him in the eyes and he appeared "not there" for lack of a better term. He was weak and unable to walk. He's still laying right next to me. Sleepy. Does this sound like a seizure? If yes, anyone have any experience with seizures? A call into the on-call vet resulted in let's get him checked out and call back in the morning to schedule an appointment. Any advice to give me peace of mind please. |
That certainly sounds like a seizure to me. When I had Scrappy and he got his first seizure I had no idea what it was. He was on the floor and started shaking and fell down. I went to pick him and and stand him up and he fell right over and when I picked him up again his head was flopping over and his eyes looked glazed over. They can last a few seconds to several minutes and are very scary to see. I was told there isn't anything you can really do while they are having a seizure, just hold them to make sure they don't hurt themselves by falling off furniture or hitting their heads on the ground. |
Two of my Shih Tzu had a few seizures for 2 different health issues. The seizures were quite different between the 2 dogs more due to their 2 different health issues. From what you described I, too, would tend to believe this was a seizure. You were given some good advice already. Glad you are able to get in to the vet tomorrow. |
