My other dog did well with a little strained baby food, the first food a baby eats, not the toddler--chicken, for example. Though with all the talk about Gerber and the GMOs/pesticides, I think I'd go for organic this time. |

P Thanks for the latest update on your baby. You must be so worried with the roller coaster ride you are riding with her. Forget what I said about tests, your vet is seeing your baby and I am sure he will do whatever tests and exams he feels are appropriate. The fact that the vet found sensitivity in the area of the pancreas suggest to me that Annabel has a moderate degree of pancreatitis. When my dog had P the vet could not detect any painful region, so we assumed that the attack was mild and did not need hospital care. With the canned food diet, Cerenia and Pepcid he recovered at home in a few days. If I were you I would keep her monitored and hydrated at the vet until she is more stable and on the mend, but again that is a decision for the vet and you to decide. If she cannot keep food and meds down, a Cerenia shot and Pepcid should help her no end. I know that you would prefer to cook for your baby, but as Lady Jane said, the prescription canned food is the usual food they are given for P. It is very bland, but nutritious and contains a lot of water to keep the dog hydrated. There are a few varieties of the P canned food and perhaps Anna will like one of them. I really have found these foods a blessing when my dog has any GI issues. It can be expensive, but after a while one can convert to the prescription kibble that is cheaper. I do feel for you as seeing our babies sick and not getting better is very distressing. Pancreatitis is a horrible affliction and it takes time and the special diet and meds to get the patient well again. It is tempting to think that one' s pet is over it when they seem back to their normal selves, but a sick pancreas takes time to recover. So praying that soon she will be over this and feel good again. Thank you for your updates, please keep us informed of how she is doing. Trust your vet and she will be fine. Warmest wishes. |

Pancreatitis Doesn't Show up in Search I'm not sure whom to let know, but when I was first searching for information on pancreatitis using the search feature for the site, "pancreatitis" did not show up on any search. I had to go the the Sick & Injured section and just start reading. I finally gave up and posted my question on it. I just did another search and nothing came up. I worry that other users won't find the help/information they're looking for. It could be that this is not cataloged (or whatever the term is) yet, but surely there are other posts on pancreatitis. Guess I'll try the Contact Us route and let someone know. |

Here is the one about my George...I was wrong..it was over 24 hours before he was in ICU.....Not sure if this thread has info that might be helpful to you at this point. I am going to try to find others. That's a shame none are tagged...pancreatitis happens a lot to yorkies. Glad you said something about t his! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...creatitis.html |
I found a few just now and tagged them...still not working. Maybe it takes a while for the software to update or something... |
Used the Contact Us Form I let whoever answers the mail from the Contact Us form know about pancreatitis not showing up in the search. Thank you for tagging. I don't know how to do that. |
There have been lots of threads on pancreatatis since many of us have had to deal with it. Weird that nothing is showing up. I feed Zoey canned RC in the morning. Then kibble at lunch and a small amount at dinner time to hide her Pepcid pill (1/4) to keep her from throwing up bile in the morning. The low fat is not filling and she is always hungry so you have to be careful not to let them get fat on low fat diet.lolol |
Diet It seems we are on a similar food regimen. The Pepcid works well also. I hear you about the low fat food not being very satisfying and my dog is always hungry!! It is hard to keep them from getting fat under these conditions. I just give my dog a few kibble in between meals if he seems really hungry.....which means he barks a lot. LOL! |
Searches I agree that searches do not always show up threads on a search topic. In the past I have found no threads when I query a search item. Does a thread or post only show up on search if tagged? I too do not know how to tag:( If Lady Jane could find a way to have the search facility show Pancreatitis threads or posts it would be very beneficial as it is a common subject here. Thank you for trying to do this. |

My Kiche was losing weight on the low fat I/D so we had to put him on the regular. It is still low fat...just not as low. He was getting funny about the food, so I have been adding sweet potatoes and tilapia and he loves it now! I cook that every day for Cookie so I just give him some. I wish he had a bigger appetite...he is a tiny thing and he just is not into food. |
dog I have spud who had a bad bout of pancreatits last dec. My vet put him on a strict diet of hills zd . Spud loves this food. You can get wet zd in the can and dry. I have to use my chopper to grind it up. Then I add warm water and he eats it. Also there are biscuits. Spud gets one a day after his walk. This food has gotten spud back to normal. He is doing well. Now spud gets Nothing else. For pills you make a little meatball with the wet food. It works. I hope your Yorkie will be healthy . If you have a prescription from your vet you can buy food at pets smart or a pet store. Prayers for healing for your precious yorkie |
