15 year old yorkie having seizures My 15 year old Chester starting having short (10 -15 second) seizuers about 6 months ago. The vet did a blood test and found low thryoid level. He was put on thryoid pill and it seemed to help for a few months. Now he's having siezures 4-5 times a week but always normal after and right back to being typical yorkie full of energy. The siezures happen when he is excited and running up or down stairs or barking and running around in circles for attention. He just falls over and then gets right back up. Eats and drinks normally but am thinking may be a diet issue... Are there any forums for older yorkies with health issues? |
We had a small male yorkie - 3lb - at at age 14 all of a sudden seizures. - Long story short, they started getting worse - turned out to be a neurological disorder . Is thre a specialty vet in our area that is a neuro that you could have him examined? |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm sorry Chester is having these problems. Does he appear to be short of breath right before he has the seizure? Can you videotape him when this happens and show your vet? |
We took Chester back to our vet on Friday. After seeing his tongue turn blue they think he has a circulation problem causing him to faint when he gets too excited or stressed. He's now on Vetmedin which should help. |
Forum for older yorkies I am also interested in a forum for older yorkies. I have a 12 year old female, who has already had breast cancer and is a survivor of less than a year. My 3.5 lb. male is 14yrs and 3 mos. I watch him breathe when he is sleeping, fearing that at any moment I'll find him gone.:( I am so sorry you are having problems with your little man. Hopefully the meds will help, and he is not suffering in any way.:aimeeyork |
