Vet says Tracheitis? My 3 pound yorkie has been hacking some. I took her to the vet and he checked her trachea (no X-ray yet..) and said she has Tracheitis. Has anyone else had a dog with this? She's only 1.5 years old! He gave her antibiotics and said if it's not better we can do an X-ray. I'm wondering if Tracheitis always goes with a collapsing trachea or if it can just be something that happens and can go away? This has been happening for a while now. It's got me a little worried! |
I have not heard of many being Dx with this. I would also explore whether or not GERD could be causing this as it's so easily treated: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...wallowing.html |
I hadn't thought of that. I will be looking into that! |
That is very common in poodles, but other breeds can have it too. They sound almost like a honk. One thing I did for mine was stand them up on their back legs and that stretches out the diapham which helps the breathing. Mine had it for years, tried different meds but my male had it the worst and this year at the age of 15 he could not breath on his own. We tried everything! So I lost my sweet Zeke. It can b serious but the best thing is for u to stay calm, pet them talk softly rub their neck gently. It can drive u nuts, but I wouldn't chg a thing with having my Zeke (except wishing his trachea was perfect) good luck! |
Does it sound like this. Below is a video of my dog. He has been doing this since 4 months old and he is now almost two. If you listen to the end you can really hear the hack noise he makes. My vets are not sure why he does it. But like Willies mom said could be acid reflux. https://youtu.be/iWA32rh7mfU |
Toddles- That makes me feel so much better knowing Zeke lived that long! Mindy- That sounds EXACTLY like my Piper! I don't really consider hers a honk. Hopefully it's nothing and just a strange thing some do. |
Leann I have asked 3 different vets and none had an answer Sammie has done it always Sometimes when playing, sometimes when running and sometimes just walking across the room or getting a drink. I use to freak everytime he did it but not a year later I am use to it It does it at least once a day, |
Just so you are aware: xrays don't always show CT. The only definitive way to diagnose it is with a flouroscopy. That said, it really does not sound like CT to me. I have had many pups with CT .. they can sound different, but he does sound like there is just some irritation going on. I am not a vet and cannot say he does not have it....just sharing my thoughts and experience. He is very cute! :) |
I finally got it on video. I have been trying, but it stops every time I pick up my phone. Now if I can only figure out how to add videos and pictures here! It almost sounds liquidy now, if that makes any sense at all. |
I know when I download a video from my phone I have to put it on You tube and then I share the you tube link. |
