Seizure Meds vs Old age I need some help..My boy is recently 13. Started seizure meds a month and half ago and recently began pacing and restlessness at night..I mean night as in at dark 630pm on. He barks to go out every 5 to 10 minutes and does nothing but roam around and come back on most trips. He is losing sight but has anyone experienced this behavior? And frequent thirst and urinating from meds? He driving me nuts and I am going away next month so it is more of a stress.. |
It could be senility but if it started when he was put on the meds, I would be more inclined to suspect the meds. Have you looked up the side effects? What is the name of the medication? Have you called your vet? I would definitely do that if you have not already. |
This could be a type of age related dementia. I would be asking my vet about giving Anipryl for aging issues: Anipryl - Help for Senior Dogs or Cats With Dementia? What about the side effects of his seizure meds? While most seizure meds cause tiredness...in aging bodies, they can actually have the opposing effect. Who will take care of him when you're gone for a month, btw...? |
My neighbor offered to sleep here but I fear he will be a handful for her during night. He gets up often to pee. She has to work during the week. Luckily she works less than a mile away. I actually have vet appt for anals, dental tomorrow and will ask him what he thinks is best while I am away. I did fins a nice vet with 24hr care but the owner said its best for older dogs to be in their own surroundings when vision deteriorates. But she is there for me.,what the heck..talk about making me think even harder. This is tough... As for the meds..I think they are the culprit..he is sleeping like a baby now,.,and only paces and goes in and out before bed..Maybe its related to the darkness..? |
