Yelping when being picked up Today Hashie let out a loud yelp when my mum picked her up, like she was in pain! I thought maybe my mum hadn't held her properly but she yelped again when I picked her up! She's still her normal self, super active and running around and playing. She's eating fine too. What could this be??? I'm thinking if it doesn't go away by tomorrow, I'm bringing her straight to the vet!! |
I agree - something is wrong here, but I can't guess as to what. Is her poo okay? I wonder if she strained something, a muscle or something. Or got stung? |
I'm sure you would have mentioned this, but did she recently get any shots? I remember when Lexi got a set of vaccinations she let out the scariest sounding yelp when I would pick her up for 1 or 2 days after. If this is not the case, then definitely a vet visit is needed. |
Definitely needs to see a vet unless recent vaccines were given as kreuer suggested. Could be many things....my Olivia did that and ended up having cholangio hepatitis. |
Hi, thank you all for your replies! I'm bringing her to the vet tomorrow morning. It's 10:45pm now. I've read that it might be pancreatitis? Anybody had any experience with that? I forgot to mention, when I came home last night, there was phlegm all over the floor, like translucenty white and sticky. Not sure that is considered vomiting? |

With my experience when Tink yelped when picked up it was from Pancreatitis. Generally I see her symptoms of: hunched back, repeated stretching, and vomitting multiple times which usually results in yellowy bile. She is now on a prescription food and gets absolutely no food with any fat on it. Best of luck with your little one. |
We woke up today and I picked her up and she was fine. No yelps, nothing. She seems to be running around and happy now. Im confused. What do I do? Should I still bring her to the vet? |
My now passed girl, when a friend of mine picked her up buy putting their hands around her middle she yelped, several weeks later she had to go to the vet for something, my regular vet was not on call that night, this vet for what ever reason picked her the same way my friend did and she yelped, the vet said Pancreatitis, test were ran and that's what she had. I would still take your baby to the vet, always better to be safe then sorry. |

Better safe than sorry.....RIGHT!!! Besides, if pup starts doing this again during the weekend, during the middle of the night, you will have to go to an emergency vet, where you will be paying at least twice what the vet will cost you....labs drawn tomorrow will still show an issue with pancreatitis, if that is what is going on.... |
A while back, I was in somewhat similar situation as you with Zoey. But than I noticed it wasn't her abdominal area that I was touching when she yelped. It was more on the sides. This continued throughout few days on/off. I took her to the vet to get it checked out. The vet checked her over and said one of her knee popped out but she put it back. With these little ones, it's a common issue. Most of the time, it pops back on its own which could be why the yelping was on/off. After that, she didn't yelp anymore... But just to be safe, I'd say take her to the vet. Better safe than sorry... |
Hi everyone! Quick update. I took Hashie to the vet today. The vet did a physical check up and found nothing wrong with Hashie. She told me its most likely just that her stomach was feeling unwell last night. She told me that at this point a blood test in not necessary and told me to let Hashie rest and avoid picking her up. I was also told that if she gets more uncomfortable or painful in the next week to bring her in for a blood test. Thank you everyone for your replies! I will keep you guys updated in a week or so :) |

Just watch her closely and if she goes down during the weekend, be prepared to take her in.....they can go down so quickly and if there would be something going on, it may be easily made worse by waiting 2-3 days for the vet to open next week! Glad baby is feeling better...they will scare the sense right out of you! |
