Painful tummy My little Yorkie/Maltese has a belly ache...I think she is constipated but I would like to hear from you guys. I got home from work yesterday and she was very slow moving and her belly was hard and painful...I gave her some syrup and a little bit a mineral oil. She started feeling a little better but no complete bowel movement. She was an abuse case and she has a weak back so she has a tendency to drop little pieces without realizing it and when she goes she struggles to empty her colon completely. She had a little bit a runny poop from the mineral oil and a little bit of flatulence when I picked her up. When I first got home she was spitting up white/yellow foamy stuff but not for long...She is eating and drinking and sleeping but hasn't gone potty. Her gums look normal too. My vet will be back tonight and I can take her...the local emergency clinic is terrible. She acts like her belly is painful to the touch. Any ideas? Thanks! |
Wish I had the answer but if she is in pain the er is better than no vet? Call your vets office and advise them of the problem and see if they can meet you asap when they hit town. |
Don't give her any more mineral oil as dogs do not digest oils well and you could cause her Pancreatitis if she doesn't already have it. I would take her to the ER if this were my pup. In the future if she is constipated you can give her pure canned pumpkin, NOT the pumpkin pie filling but Pure Pumpkin OR you can give fresh or frozen green beans or apple. I hope all is well by morning. |
How is this pup this morning? I agree that a vet visit is in order... |
Hope to hear that your pup is back to "regular"! |
Let me start by saying she is back to being her rowdy self!!! I took her to my vet and he thinks she might have a kidney infection which causes her pain while going potty. The mineral oil did help her go potty and I only gave her a bit. I didn't want to take her to the er because of horror stories from friends and personal experience. Believe me though I would have taken her if she wasn't feeling better. Thanks for the help!! |
Sorry it took me a while to reply...I'm kinda out in the boonies so service is terrible!! |
