Clear mucus and blood in stool Hello our Yorkie has stools about 2-3 times a week that have clear mucus, blood, and sometimes looks like white jelly in it. We took a sample to the vet and they said it was negitive, but wanted to see her. We brought her in and they said everything seemed fine. She eats drinks and acts normal. She is house trained to go outside but when she has the stools like this she can't hold it and goes in the house. It has been going on for a few months most of the time it's normal stool but few times a week it's not. Any help? Thank you |
Mucous and blood are indications of irritation in the intestines. My boys will occasionally have a little mucous if they have eaten something they shouldn't, like leaves or grass. Blood is more troubling, as are frequent bouts of mucous. Does your Yorkie eat chew treats or something else that could be irritating her system? Blood and mucous can also be associated with illnesses like irritable bowel syndrome, pancreatitis, giardia (sometimes difficult to diagnose). |

Could also be a sign of constipation which, when left untreated, can cause other problems. It would be a good idea to visit the vet if there has been no signs of improvement in the last 24-72 hours. Even with improvement, if there is a reoccurrence following improvement, no matter the time span, a vet check would be a good idea as the issue may be down to other things as previous posters have mentioned. |
No change in food and stopped giving her treats to see if anything was causing it. It's been off n on for months was just at the vet again on Monday stool was negative again and the didn't see about thing wrong with her blood work. Doesn't seem like she is constipated and they don't know what's causing it. |
This could be Colitis. I would see the vet ASAP as Colitis can cause hemorrhage inside & death without treatment. Take this stool sample to the vet with you. |
