HELLO EVERYONE new to forum; Skin Issue Help Needed I joined the forum today and am really impressed with the wonderful information and concer for this wonderful breed. I was looking for help with a chewing problem with my 8 year old pup. She had a bad problem with scratching constantly around snout and eyes. prescribed apoquel from the vet and the scratchin almost stopped completely. As she stopped scratching she became very lethargic; now she has started chewing on her legs and haunches..mostof her belly is now pink instead od the soft white Where she chews the skin seems to be covered with very small brown blotches.(<1/8"). I have sttopped the apoquel because of the mood change. Is there a topical treatment for the itching. I am hoping to use a 1% hydrocortizone cream for itching. Worried about effects as of the med for obsorbtion into her system. Sorry for the long message..hoping for a little insight without the vet. |
Hi and welcome to YT :). Why stop the Apoquel, when it was working, just bc of lethargy? That is a symptom with many meds that will go away over a little time. To me, these symptoms sound way to severe to not medicate, ya know? I'd get her back on the Apoquel ASAP and give it at least a month's time. Apoquel is *such* a great medication and can work miracles for so many allergy dogs. The splotches you're seeing could be pyoderma, which is a staph imtermedius infection in dogs -- which needs a 'srcrip of Simplicef x 30 days to treat. If it's widespread like you're describing, topical things most likely won't do a thing. |
