Help I have a 10 week old teacup yorkie. I have been through the ringer with him. He has had 4 hypoglycemic episodes that required emergency visits to the vet. He is an extremely finicky and won't voluntarily eat anything but honey. He is half a pound. My vet now has me feeding him 5cc's of premium puppy food through a siringe with honey in it every 4-5 hours. I also give him nutri cal and water after every meal. My issue is now he is lethargic.... it seems like he is too full...am I overfeeding him? I can't seem to find the right balance....please help me.... the vet says he is the smallest he has ever seen. . |
Hi and welcome to YT :). Honestly, at 10 weeks old and at this dangerous size - he should really still be with his Momma. Ethical breeders will not even allow their dogs to be released until they are at least 12 weeks and oftentimes at least 2 pounds. If he is truly lethargic, then he really does need to see the vet again as lethargy is not normal in puppies. You and this tiny pup are in a *very* vulnerable situation here, and you are going to have to be extremely diligent in staying on top of keeping him alive right now. |
It makes me wonder if he truly is even 10 weeks old yet. An ethical breeder wouldn't refer to him as a "Teacup" because there is no such thing- a Yorkie is a Yorkie no matter the size. Also, being as tiny as he is he should never have left his Mama yet. I'm very worried for you and your pup. Please keep in contact with the vet, and if he isn't providing much help you should find one that specializes in small breed dogs (you should probably do that anyway.) Is your pup always lethargic? Does he ever have times of play and energy? If not, there is definitely something wrong. I wish you the best outcome, prayers for the baby! |

Honestly, that is just too young for the dog not be be with its mother. I can only hope that you both make it through. You will need constant vigilance to just keep this little one alive. Please keep it up and save this poor innocent creature. We are all counting on you, but for the pup it is life or death. |
I agree with everyone else, he seems to be a lot younger than 10 weeks. Does he have teeth? When I first got my Buddy, they told me that he was 8 weeks and ready to go but I think he was younger. He barely had any teeth poor thing couldn't eat. I had to add water to his food then smash it so that he could swallow it. Also because they are so tiny they can only eat a little at a time, you will have to feed him multiple times a day. I am praying for your little one and hopes he gets better soon. Please keep us updated! |
