Tremors and Collapsing Hello, My 12yr old Yorkie Rex has recently began having tremors when eating and losing balance and falling. He gets right back up but it seems to be happening allot. The vet asked me to video him and send which I did and he will view and respond. Anyone ever heard of this and what it could be? About a month back he began drinking more so I had him checked..bloodwork perfect urine perfect. I thought kidneys but all tests are good. I am thinking neuro or his bad back again..any input will help..Kathy |
My elderly yorkie does the same thing. we did all the testing. My suggestion is to elevate his bowl and see if this improves it. |
Kathy I don't know if this has anything to do with it but you said he has a bad back. I use to work for a chiropractor. We saw animals also. We had several that could hardly walk and after adjustments they had their tails wagging. One parent had been told the only fix was surgery. I am not saying this is the only cure but it's something to consider. Not all chiropractors work on animals but mine has flown to Hawaii by the owners request to treat horses on a ranch. |
This must be so scary to see. I would elevate the bowl, like Cathy said, it really may help bc the current position of him eating may be triggering a nerve, causing severe pain and/or fainting. |
Thank you for the replies..bowl elevation did nOt help. Poor thing just wants to play and eat normal. I have a feeling it is back related but vet asked questions about intake of water. She is viewing the video I sent now and was not happy about finding out a day later.. |

If you saw my dog, you would think he was ataxic or drunk walking at times. He otherwise still has a very good quality of life and is turning 15 next month. So try not to worry too much, these neurological types of things can be very hard to assess, even with all the testing. If your dog has "something bad" then you will see it getting worse. Let us know what your vet says. |

Thanks..we have 1130 neurologist appt. The Vet said it is strange. Not quite a seizure so she recommended a neurologist. He is still playing and eating etc.Just tremors and off balance..praying.. |
hoping positive things happened at the neurologist:aimeeyork |
Neurologist testing was fine..bloodwork was done and I am awaiting results. If blood is good she said she will give anti seizure meds but requested another video to see his face when it happens. Of course he ate and did not tremor at dinner at all. Which is good..so I will see what blood result is tomorrow.. |
