Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) Has any one ever had to deal with this issue??? My Luci may very well have this problem. Our next step next week will be to send off Blood work to Texas A&M for a TLI test. The TLI test measures the amounts of digestive enzymes in a dog's system. |
We use enzymes for my girl due to a horrible case of pancreatitis. A great site to check out is www.epi4dogs.com Best wishes for you and Luci. :animal-pa |
Vicki I have a good friend who had a pup with it. If you need to speak with her, I will get you in touch. I have never had a pup with it, but have two friends who have. One was a yorkie who passed this last year....and the other is a greyhound. |

Vicki, I don't know anything about it. But you and Luci will be in my prayers. |
Luci will have her Blood Work done Monday. Texas A&M say's it should be done on a M-W so it doesn't get stuck somewhere sitting. My Vet always send things by Federal Express Next Day Air. She has to fast for 12 hrs for this test. The test should take between 3-5 day's for results. |
I pray that you get good test results with Luci and that starts to feel better. |
Praying for good results. |

I am awaiting on the results from Tink's blood test for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). Tink's symptoms seem to be consistent with this issue - lots of tummy issues, especially with bacteria overgrowth. |

Just now got Luci's result's from A&M. They just faxed Reults to my Vet and she just emailed me the report. She does not have EPI, BUT she goes have very low B12 and Folate in system which usually goes hand in hand with EPI. Her result's were as follows Cobalarmin Fasting (B12) Result is 250mg Low /// Range should be 251-908 Folate Fasting her result is 5ug/L LOW/// Range should be 7.7-24.4 TLI Fasting Result is 34.2 Ug/L Normal /////Range should 5.7--45.2 So their suggestion is to give her B Complex Liquid that also has the Folic Acid in it.Now getting the dose for her is going to be tricky since she is so small. So she does have issues with Small Intestinal Disease with her B12 and Folate Levels being low. |
Sending positive thoughts and prayers for Luci that the supplements will put her on the road to recovery. |
Look like it will be next before we can start Luci on Folic Acid as it has to be special ordered and compounded for her small size. She will have to take this 4 weeks 2xday. B12 injections for 6 weeks. She has now also been changed to the RX RC Low Fat Food, which she doesn't seem to like. It so sad Luci is running from me now when she see's me approach her, she just knows she is going to get more med's and she absolutely hates that. I am praying all these changes will help her diseased intestine's. Then we will re-test again in about 7 weeks. |
I can imagine how hard it is to give her a med without being able to put it in a food she would like. Hoping she will get accustomed to her new Rx food too. Praying that the changes will help her feel better and accept the food. |
I'm sorry to hear about Lucy's diagnosis and hope the treatment and diet works for her. |

The Folic Acid seems to be ok for her, no vomiting. But it has only been two day's since starting the med's. My goodness the schedule of med's for her is a trip since I don't give all together. She taking Tylan Powder 2 x day, the omeprazole and folic acid once a day. She did get her 1st B12 shot and did ok with that, thank goodness it's only 1 shot a week for 6 weeks. So far we have had no runny poos, but then that again is a problem, she is only going poop about 3 day's (not normal). The bacteria is now out of system for the moment, I just pray that it doesn't come back. But with this type of issues it does happen. I hope Tink is doing well with her med's. |
