Carsick then vomit hours later? I'm a new yorkie mom and a worrywart at the same time. I've had my baby for 2 weeks. She threw up the day we brought her home from the car ride and today I took her out in the car again for the first time since we brought her home. She vomited from the car ride again so I know I've got to take her for short trips to get her used to the car. My question is - she just ate, and has been rambunctious and playing, then she vomited. Afterwards, she went back to running and romping and ate a couple more pieces of food. When she vomited this evening it seemed like a lot of food for her tiny size. Do you think it could be that she ate too much? Or from being sick form the car earlier in the day? She has also had a bowl movement this evening. Help! |
I don't know about vomiting several hours after the car ride. I adopted my boy 19 months ago, he was then 2 1/2 y/o. The day I bought him home he got sick in the car. The day after I bought him home he had to go to the vet, he threw up going there and coming home. I had NOT fed him before the car trip, a tip given me from a past vet for a past pup. My vet gave me pills to give an hour before he goes in the car, I hate giving a dog a pill just for car rides, and I am spur of the moment hop in car for what ever, I had always taken my dogs with me, even if it was only a 10 minute ride. I was not a happy camper knowing the only way I could take my baby in the car was to give him a pill. Then I read here on YT about booster seats, off I went to pet supplies, I purchased the below Name of booster seat at Pet supplies….Tagalong Pet Booster Seat…large size holds up to 18 Lb dog. Basket dimensions: 16” W x 14”D x 8” H. Cody is 12 lbs, I got the larger one so he can lay down and nap.The seat is elevated OFF the passenger seat. That was 14 months ago, he has NEVER gotten car sick since I got him this booster seat. He now LOVES going for car rides. I can feed him and 15 minutes later hop in the car and he is just fine. If you are not using a booster seat I suggest getting one. Good luck |
Very interesting advice about the booster seat ! I have to try it myself, but currently we do not have any dog not used to a car ride... But I will pass it along for sure. To the OP, you first described something very normal, first time puppy vomiting when taken from his breeder house and the other car ride followed with vomiting. What concerns is the vomiting after playtime. This puppy may be overeating or eating too fast. With this breed we do not want to risk hypoglycemia and withdraw food for longer periods, specially to a puppy. Have you tried feeding controlled smaller portions more often? It could be just that. If puppy eats too fast it feed too much and play or exercise following can trigger the vomiting . Smaller meals may be the answer. Congrats on your new addition . Xoxo |
Thanks to you both. Matese - I will look for the booster seat. Smartpuppiepets - She had just eaten and playing pretty hard. That may be the answer. She's been fine today. She's such a sweet puppy. |
