3 yr. old Yorkie lethargic
 

The story begins when my 3 yr old Yorkie peed on my bed. That was on Sunday...then Tuesday during the night she pooped on the bedroom floor...looser stool. Though she did these things she was VERY playful and excellent appetite.

Then this morning at 6 am, she seemed very tired...she did eat her breakfast. About 1/2 later she seemed to be very weak...wobbly legs. I picked her up, her head just flopped...she seemed to not be able to focus her eyes and wanted to close them. Her tongue was out a little. She was like a wet noodle.

Immediately took her to emergency. I thought she was going yo die in my arms.....they checked her vitals. Vet said she was pale, heart rate was slow. Got there right before they closed, so had to take her to the vet and had blood work done...all within normal range. Vet did say her gums were not as pink as they should be and also mentioned slow but strong heart beat. No past history of any health issues. I asked if she could have had a stroke and he said no.

A few hours later she perked up........100% better, then about 3:30 this afternoon...she seemed weak and tired again. Just not herself.

Please if anyone has any idea what this could be, I would appreciate your input.

I saw this exact situation on the "All Things Great and Small" TV show years ago....the pet owner was so distraught with his dog doing exactly what you have described....long story short, the pup was getting into the owners medication that he kept on his nightstand so he would remember to take it....
Is there any chance your baby is getting into any medication or ....forgive me, pot.....make sure there is no way for the pup to be having access to pills or purses with meds in them...sugar free gum/candy/sweetner paks, or cannibus will do the same thing....
I would be needing answers from SOMEBODY!!!! a specialist , this kind of thing will make you nuts and possibly take your baby from you.....

The vet asked the same thing....anxiety pills was mentioned. It's not that for sure as we have none of those. No drugs sitting out. AND never had pot around.

If it happens right after they eat it could lead to other things. Did they just have a meal around the times that you are noticing these issues?

In the morning yes...but she was good after lunch.

I think you should ask your vet to do the blood test for Liver Shunt. Just to rule it out. Sending good thoughts to you.

She woke up with this...........yesterday was running and jumping for hours on end. She does have some honking.........so maybe something with her trachea? She slept from 6:30 to 9:20 pm. tonight. She seems better now. I sure hope she's ok in the morning. Don't think I have any tears left. :( I love my girls SO much, just can't stand the thought of something happening to them.

If a regular vet is not able to diagnose, I would go to an internal med specialist...or even another regular vet for a second opinion.

If all her bloodwork is normal, perhaps it is something with her heart. You might ask about that...whether a referral for a cardio might be in order?

Oh my gosh, how utterly scary! I feel really bad for you both. And no answers!

I would see an internist, I think.

Was Addisons mentioned at all? I doubt it was that, but it crossed my mind bc they can crash w/ an event.

Any new developments?

I hope she is doing better. That is scarey, I would need an answer. Otherwise I couldn't sleep!

When you say "all blood work was normal," do you know what all tests your vet did? I definitely can understand your concern. Maybe a second opinion from another vet? Sometimes a fHope your little one is better soon!

Sometimes a fresh set of eyes will e something your vet doesn't.

is he fainting? I had a maltese that had trachea problems and she started to faint with it. But then the dr told me that she also had a heart problem. So they never figured out if she was fainting from the heart condition or the trachea But mine would go all the way out and fall and have her eyes closed and scream and pee.

Please be gracious enough to find a moment to give a lot of members here on YT (that were gracious and took time and responded to your plea for advice or suggestions), an update on what has happened to your pup.

Did they rule out that it was hypoglycemic episode? My dog had various issues (low sugar, upper respirator infection, giardia) last week and she had the same symptoms but it is my understanding that this can happen with low blood glucose. She was shaking and her head just kept going back. If this happens make sure to help her head in case she throws up because if she swallows it back it can sometimes lead to aspiration pneumonia. We held our dog forward in case it threw up so that it came right out and not down her throat. I hope I made sense. It's hard to explain.

Do you have nutrical? that helps and they say you can't overdose on it but if you give your dog too much it will cause diarrhea. I would also look into the liver shunt like someone else mentioned. Make sure you check her gums frequently and if they are not pink you should give your furbaby nutrical. Nutrical is not a substitute for food so it's good that your dog is eating.
