Degenerative Disc Disease - Experiences? Hi everyone, My name is Joanne and I am from the Western New York (Buffalo) area. My beloved YorkiePoo Mocha just turned 6 and recently she became very lethargic, stiff, and would yelp from time to time. She had put a little weight on over the last year or so, but still quite playful and active. She had a habit of chasing people around and jumping on and off furniture. We just had to take her in and hospitalize her because as it turns out she has a genenerative cervical disc (between position 3 and 4) which was causing her much pain, she had alot of trouble moving her head, twitch her head and shake. Her lifestyle needless to say will change greatly and was told we have to make sure she doesnt overdo things. Anyone else have experiences with this or advice? She has had a few laser treatments and now will be on Previcox and Muscle Relaxants as needed. Joanne |
Hi and welcome to YT :). So sorry to hear of your baby's diagnosis...you hate to see these little ones in any pain, it breaks your heart. My Wylie has disc disease too and he has "flares" where it will bother him...when that happens, he is given a pain pill, a steroid, and muscle relaxant for about 7 days...then we stop. Over the last year, he's only had 2 flares total...so we've been lucky. I hope you'll be able to find a regimen that works well! Btw, going to move your thread to the Sick Forum. |
So sorry...hope the meds work and give her some relief. If not, has your vet suggested a neuro consult with perhaps a MRI being done? I might be incliined to do that if things do not improve. Many times they DO improve with meds...hope that is the case. Keep us posted on her progress. Welcome to YT! |
Hello, so sorry about the news. My Hanna had this happen this past year. She got up one morning and was horrid pain. Took her to the vet immediately and they found that this is what she had also. They put her on two pain meds for a week and gave her a shot. Seems to have cleared up. Will never heal but am ready now for the next flare up as I have the meds and know what to look for. Hanna is 15 1/2 and has stopped jumping so that isn't an issue with us anymore. I really don't know how you would stop a dog from jumping if she wants to. |
