Possibly a foxtail in throat maybe???!!? Izzy makes this sound that we can only describe as the sound you make if you're trying to hock a lugi up from nose phlegm. And she's been doing it pretty often the last two days. She usually only makes that sound when she's straining hard or running too fast, and then it goes away. But she'll be laying down perfectly still and then start making that sound and looking like she's straining for air. And it will go on for a minute or two and then start up again randomly. But the last three hours she's getting worse with it. She isn't trying to hack anything up. And she's still active. She's not acting different other than the choking sounds. I keep finding fox tails in her hair here and there, and I'm afraid she may have swallowed one. Is this one of those times I should take her to e.r or just call my vet in the a.m? |
I'd go to the vet quickly personally. Remember reading about one of those making their way through the body, until the dog was in big trouble. |
Foxtails: Why They're Dangerous for Dogs Dogs have even died from foxtails...if you google it your'll see several posts about it. https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourc...%20kills%20dog |
I just thought of something. She was given her bordatello shot about four nights ago. It was actually a drop you put in their nose. They both got it done . Toby isn't making the same sounds. He's fine. But would it be possible the shot actually gave it to her? Like the flu shot does with people? |
I mean, if not I'll take her to an emergency care for sure. |

As for the hacking...gosh it could be a foxtail, a blade of grass that is stuck (grass can stick to the back of the throat quite easily..and even travel up to the nasal cavity). Foxtails, btw, can be life threatening, unforch....they can actually travel through the body, to the brain or other organs. I hope it's not that. My Marcel had go under to have one removed from his nose this year...it was not fun at all! |

Wow. Yeah I'm pretty sure now that it's kennel cough. I gave her a cough suppressant and it went away for quite awhile. NeiTher option was good, but I'm so glad it wasn't a foxtail.im glad I actually snapped about giving them that damned vaccine. Thank you everybody for responding like you did. Izzy is doing much better and I'll be taking her to our vet in a couple days. |
