Should I see the vet?! I've had my 8 week morkie for 4 days now, and he's been eating ok. I've had restless nights because he has been crying excessively. I usually get up, cuddle, then put him back into his bed. Well last night, he was fine up until like 330am and started crying again so I got up, cuddled, put him in bed and he wouldnt stop. I was really tired so I let him cry it out. When I woke up, I mixed his food so he could eat, and he just went, smelled it, and just drank water instead. Shortly after, he vomited the water, and kept nodding his head and running around. I grabbed him and his heartbeat was so fast! I am so concerned! I have his first vet check appt for saturday but am thinking of calling them to move it up to today. Has anyone had this happen to their pup? |
I think your gut instinct is right. You should take him to the vet today first chance. There are so many things that could be wrong with such a young little guy. If you have Karo syrup or honey, try to rub a little on his gums in case its hypoglycemia…but it sounds like an emergency to me. |

Hope he gets better soon also nutrical is great to give them it a high calorie supplement I always keep some in the house just in case |
I kind of think this pup was brought home too early. Usually a breeder will not let them go home til 13 weeks ; at least my breeder did. They can get separation anxiety for going home too early. Susan |
Hey all! Thank you so much for your concerns. When he had that episode yesterday, i was paranoid it he had hypoglycemia so I rubbed honey in his mouth to boost his sugar up (had read this about toy breed dogs). After that he was fine, then ate a little food. Took him to the vet and she said he was healthy, and didnt seem to have hypoglycemia but she told me I did the right thing giving him honey just in case. She gave him deworming medication and said if he has worms, thats probably why he isnt eating as well, because they take all his nutrients. So this morning when I took him out to poop, he pooped and had roundworms in it!!! That explains.......he's doing much better after pooping them out, and eating better. |
Definitely make sure you have Nutrical on hand. It is better then honey for the pups |

Worms are one of the worst problems about getting a puppy that young. I had the same thing with Sunni, who I got at 9 - 10 weeks. She was bloated and had poopie problems. So, I checked her poop and there they were. The vet wormed her and she started to improve but just one time worming wasnt enough. She needed a second shot about 2 -3 weeks later and I was told it sometimes takes 3 doses:eek:. Its gross to deal with, for sure! But a huge relief when they are all gone. Make sure you are washing your hands and dont really let her get too close to your face, use extra sanitary care until the vet checks her stool and gives the all clear...people can get certain types of worms from their pets sometimes. That's one of the things a really good breeder has handled that people forget to talk about, lol. When you get your puppy at 12 weeks + the breeder has been doing the de- worming..when they leave early, there may not be enough time to get them clear...at least that's the case with my little miss Sunshine. |
