bloated stomach but otherwise normal I noticed My 2 year old yorkie Mia had a swollen stomach, besides that however she is normal I am very worried because I have no idea what it could be please help. |
It could be just gas but it could be very serious such as a blockage/obstruction in intestines or digestive tract. The only way you could find out is take her to the vet. How long has her stomach been bloated? |
It wasn't bloated like this yesterday I just noticed it right now after 4:00 pm she is very active and happy but her stomach is just big, she has no other symptoms. |

If its just gas do you have any tips on how to treat it? She's only been like this for a few hours and is otherwise acting normal. |
I sort of hate posting this, because I don't want to alarm you since there could be nothing wrong but on the other hand you should be aware of two serious conditions where a symptom might be a swollen belly. The first condition one of my yorkies had it is also a condition that seems to hit the yorkie breeder more often than most other breeds. My dog seemed 100% normal until one evening when I was giving him a bath, it's when I noticed that his stomach was very bloated, I took him to the ER vet and they drained about 4 oz of fluid. The vet felt it was lymphangiectasia, turned out he was right, so my Duffy was treated with steroid medicine every day at first and then once or twice a week. The other condition is called bloat you can read up on both conditions and see if you feel your put has any of the symptoms. But if his stomach seems to be the same or has gotten larger you should definitely go to the vet Lymph Node Inflammation, Intestinal Tract (Lymphangieasia) in Dogs | petMD Dog Bloat: Symptoms, Causes, Treatments |
please be forewarned as a new member many of your future posts will be randomly held for a day or so, so if you go to post a reply and you can't that is the reason why. Also your post will eventually be released and posted just where you wanted it. This confuses new members like you that are looking for help and tend to post a lot right after joining. They do this to keep down the robot spammers that are popping up everywhere |
I would say to keep an eye on her. They often can just have a full stomach and/or gas....BUT if she starts showing any signs of discomfort, vomiting, inability to go to the bathroom, or diarrhea.....or any other signs that may indicate she is not well, I would suggest you take her to an emergency clinic tonight. Otherwise, if she still has a bit of a bloated tummy, give your vet a call in the morning. |

So it turns out she was just pregnant! I was very surprised because i had taken close measures to ensure she wouldnt get pregnant until i found the cheapest place to get her spayed. I had just found a place too when the idea came to me and i squeezed her nipple and she was lactating. She only had three puppies two girls and a boy so that is good i already have very good homes lined up for them. Ionce she finishes nursing i will get her spayed asap! want to thank all of you for your timelly responses and great advice i am glad there is a helpful community like this online. Again thank you so much! |
There is definitely a problem when you see a bloated stomach.I would say it is a ton of bile built up from various reasons, flu, ate something bad ,could be many reasons. The problem arises from Vets, just like in the people Doctor field,a good Vet or doctor is a big time hit n miss.Such is life you only learn with age and after many mistakes. IMO you have a 24-48 hour window to decide on trusting that very expensive vet or waiting it out. It is as easy as really spending a lot of time with your puppy/dog and getting to know him and his tendencies. Mine often does things to make a small situation worse like eating tons of grass and other things off the ground, like digging up fertalizer and licking it and laying in it when it is hot out. If you find your dog getting sick what seems like total randomness, then likely is eating something bad outside or licking something inside it shouldn't be. |
Thank you for posting and letting us know what the situation was with her. Glad she did not have a serious problem. It was very kind of you to come back and tell us what had been the reason for her stomach bloat. |
