my pup fell down stairs.... PLEASE HELP My baby sparkle is just about 13 weeks, yesterday while I was away and my boyfriend was home with her, he accidentally left the door open leading to the basement and he said she fell down approximately 3 stairs. He said she didn't yelp or cry out. I immediately rushed home. I watched her walk (she's limping a little) and is favoring her front right leg. When I flex it she doesn't cry or make any sound. She is eating, drinking, voiding fine. She has a follow up.vet appointment tomorrow for fecal testing (routine no problem). Any advice? I already feel like a bad mommy please no judgment or harshness thank you |
If it was my 13 week old puppy I would be at the ER vet, however, I am very fortunate, my vet has a 24/7, 365 days clinic. Better safe then sorry is my motto, but this is who I am, if you can get puppy to an ER I would just to be on the safe side. Hope your puppy is ok. |

My vet has an urgent care that we are at right now waiting for xrays I was just way too worried to keep her home thanks |
Let us know what happens. Hopefully it is just a sprain.. |
You can probably wait until tomorrow BUT she really should be seen today. As for your exam, pretty much useless because you cannot tell if there is a fracture that way. If anyone would be harsh, to be frank it would only be if you let her sit in pain and did not seek vet care. Accidents happen...we all know that. |

We canceled the follow up because I took the stool sample with me he re examined her to make sure everything was ok with my baby. He didn't give her medication he just told me to crate her for a day or so, so she doesn't hurt herself again (she's a jumper). She is getting back to herself.Man I'll tell you that was one scary night and one hell of an easter. Thanks so much hun |
Happy to hear all is well. Sounds like she is going to keep you busy! :) You should look into steps and/or ramps and train her to use them and not jump. Good luck! |
And baby gates across stairwells to keep her from taking another tumble down a flight of stairs! Just like having a crawling 8 month old human baby around the house!! You have to be one step, one thought, ahead of them!!! |
I am so glad she's ok, but don't take chances. Buy two or three baby gates if you have to. They don't realize the dangers. I have several baby gates. If I'm steaming and polishing the dining room and kitchen floor, I use two baby gates to keep them in the LR. One going in the entry way and the other going into the LR. I do this too if anyone comes with a toddler. I don't want to change my girls knocking them over or the toddler to pull hair or ears. ;) I've also done this to separate my granddogs from my girls if the granddogs get too rambunctious. I also put up 4 baby gates to the bedrooms when a few of my boys and their family come to visit so my girls don't get nosy and either roll in their clothes/suitcase or find some of the kids candies to eat. One time Zada found a pkg. of gum in my sons back pack and ate paper and all. That was when all the gates went up. |
