Three sore-like patches on Elle! Hi everyone. I just discovered three scab-like dry patches of skin (about the size of a dime) on my little 5 month old Yorkie, Elle. One is between her shoulder blades in the center of her back, one is on her back leg, and the other is on her side beside her front leg. The one on top is very dry and it seems like the hair has fallen off in the spot. The other two look more like dry red sores. I just found them today – I did not see them when I bathed her last week. I am going to call the vet first thing in the morning. . Does anyone have any idea what these sores could be? They do not seem to be painful to her . . . they are not open . . . they do not look like bug bites – if anything, it kind of looks like it could be ringworm – Can dogs can get ringworm this time of year? I would appreciate any ideas! Thank you! |
Hi...Dogs can get Ringworm anytime ...it's contageous too.....it does sound like it..... but you need a vet to tell you more - There is a simple test with Ultraviolet light that will tell them if it is ....but your puppy needs to see a Vet. I hope it's something simple and easy to treat !! Good luck |
By the time we woke this morning . . . there were several more sores! I called the vet and made an appointment immediately. . . . . we just returned . . . It is ringworm. The vet did the test with the ultra violet light. . and the sores lit right up! She gave Miconazole NItrate a topical antifungal agent for dogs and a medicated shampoo called Malaseb. Elle should be fine in about 2 weeks! Thanks for your imput! |
