Upset tummy and bloody stool Our 3 year old Morkie was treated about a month ago for a bladder infection with Clavamox. She started throwing up bile, so she couldn't finish the meds and the vet just gave her a shot of antibiotics and B-12. Ever since that she hasn't been right. She continues to throw up off and on and some days won't eat at all. The vet said I should give her Pepcid and an anti-nausea medicine. That hasn't helped either. I've only been feeding her chicken and rice for the most part lately. She wouldn't eat this morning and I came home to bloody diarreah all over my family room. She had a radiograph that didn't show any stones, but they said she has a lot of crystals in her urine (not sure what kind). Her blood test came back ok, but she does have a slightly elevated liver enzyme. The vet said probably just because she had been sick. I'm supposed to be switching her to Royal Canin SO, but I don't want to do that until I can get her stomach better. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I called the vet and of course he's gone for the day so they won't call me back until tomorrow! I also posted this thread earlier in the Health forum. Now I'm just really worried about the bloody stools! Could rice cause this in a Morkie?? |
Hi and welcome to YT. You are right bloody stools are definitely something to worry about. Before you switch foods which will result in another thing for your baby's digestive system to deal with let me see if I can get some of the more knowledgeable members to chime in. Do you trust the Vet? You may need to consult with another Vet. Best wishes and prayers for your Morkie. |
Personally, I would be looking for another vet and I'd be doing it now. It doesn't sound to me like your vet is all that interested in helping with whatever is wrong, rather than just passing off your poor baby with a few meds and sending her on her way. Listen to your instincts and find another vet who will get to the bottom of this. |
Yikes. I just saw this and since it was op 3 days ago I hope the dog is okay? Dogs can have a little blood and mucus in loose stools just from stress but "bloody diarrhea all over the family room" sounds serious. Research HGE Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE): A Cause of Bloody Diarrhea in Dogs Hope that was not the case, difficult to diagnose but immediate treatment is important. Let us know how your dog is! |
