Torn ACL My little Chloe who is 9 years old has a torn ACL and possibly PCL. I took her to the vet about 6 month ago and he put her on an anti-inflammatory. She was good for several months, but now she is having alot of problems walking. So I am thinking she probably needs surgery now. I am curious if anyone here has had any experience with this issue with your dog? How was the outcome? How was the recovery? Cost? He said that she would probably tear the ACL in her other leg as well? It is very hard to keep her calm and off her leg when I have 3 other yorkies who want to play all the time.:animal36 |
Mine had a partial tear and had surgery for that and her LP at the same time. It was 8 weeks of crate rest and about $3,100. They also said within 18 months her other ACL would tear but she has gone 3 years and it hasn't. |
Sophie had a tear from running in the backyard about 9 months after her surgery for both of her luxating patellas. Recovery for her was 8 weeks on crate rest, 4 weeks on crate rest with a few exceptions and then 4 weeks of being kept on a leash with no jumping or running. We had to start physio with her the day after she came home which was 2 days after surgery as well as icing for the first week or so and then icing and warm compresses before and after her short walks. To be honest, she is still working on gaining her muscles and a little unstable in her back legs - but she had some set backs during the luxating patella surgery recovery so she hadn't gotten back to herself from that surgery before she was put back on crate rest. As for cost we paid $2400 for the acl surgery and $4000 for her luxating patellas. I send lots of positive thoughts for you and your little one, it sucks seeing them in pain and being uncomfortable! |
Surgery for a torn CCL and MPL repair is around $4,000. You might find it a bit less but be sure it is a board certified surgeon doing it. Sadly many people let torn CCLs go and this is the outcome down the road. The arthritis sets in and it is very painful. Here is a link to an article written by the surgeon I use here in Houston: Yorkie Haven Rescue - Cranial Cruciate Ligament Tear Info |
Thanks for the replies! Gonna see what my vet has to say Friday about her leg. |
