gagging hacking hairball? Last night around 11 we were awaken to what sounded like a cat hacking a hair ball but it was our puppy. She is a 6 month old snorkie. We saved her from going to the pound when her family was unable to take care of her. Anyways she was making the hacking noise 4 other times last night then when I got up to let her out and feed her she was doing it again.(3 am). I don't know what to do. I read about flax seed, high fiber bread, brown rice ect. Another thing when we got her they said they just bought the cheap dog food from walmart so I bought the cheap kind I could find. I'm thinking about going to the since diet for toy bread or another better brand any ideas on that? |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I would take your little girl to the vet. The hacking could be caused by so many things: kennel cough, infected throat, something stuck in her throat . . . and many more possibilities. I would not risk flax seed, high fiber, brown rice -- you could make her very sick. Choosing a dog food brand can be a challenge. At WalMart or the grocery stores, my choice would be one of the better Purina blends. I feed my boys Fromm, which is available at the pet boutiques. Maybe someone else will have some suggestions for what is available at PetSmart and Petco. |
Can they get kennel cough w.out any other animals around? |
Also she got up and went potty then back to sleep. Coughed/gaged kinda like a cat w.hair ball 2 more times then was done. I got up at 3am and got ready for work we went for a walk she came back in. She ate her food and drank water. She then started to get hyper and ate food fast then did it again and I left for work and my husband is home and nothing since then |

Sometimes eating and drinking too fast will cause these little ones to hack and cough. |
Hi I sent you a private message |
How is the puppy doing. Is she still making the hacking noise? Hope all is well with her. |
She is doing better. I took her to the vet and it was due to eating to fast and getting a reverse cough |
