Sick Baby- vomiting and stomach issues Teddy has been sick on and off now for a few weeks. Some days he is better and some days he just looks ill, just less hyper than his usual self. Last week he threw up foam which was yellowish white with tiny dots of fresh blood in it. We took him to the er vet and they have him medicine and did blood work and they said something about his liver came back a little high and everything else was normal. So far his popp looks good, firm, no blood. It's just the blood in the vomit that worries me a lot! I googled what it can be and came back with pancreatitis to liver disease, or liver cancer. It can be anything! What should I do next? There's so many things it can be and I'm worried! Today he was okay and vomited a tiny bit and I gave him pepto and he feels better now. His stomach would make A LOT of rumbling noises, really loud. And it's not because he's ever hungry because he eats and when we offered food he turns away. Please help me, give me some insight on what it can be. Thanks, (he's 8 1/2) |
It sounds like his liver enzyme count came back high. This can be caused by a liver shunt. Are you going to have more tests run? You might ask the vet about a low protein diet until you can get some answers. Sometimes this can be controlled with diet for a time and sometimes it requires surgery. To set your mind at ease you need to get more answers,so that you can help your baby. |
Yes I don't know what tests to ask for though. I would like to asap. I want to know what it is and to treat it |
What about IBD/IBS...was that discussed? There are a few options to treat this if he has it. I so hope your baby feels better soon and that you get a good Dx! |
If it is a high liver enzyme count, the next text is a bile acid test. This is done over the course of a day and your baby will have to spend a day at the vets. The test measures the reaction of the liver to protein. Your vet should have some suggestions. Call and ask to speak to the vet on the phone, voice your concerns, see what is recommended. If nothing is recommended and you are not comfortable with this. Find a second opinion. |
