Diherrea/ Back Hind Leg My 5 year old Yorkie had diherrea for about a day and a half and before that his stool hadn't been great for about 2-3 days, last night he was very weak although we were keeping him hydrated with lots of water and baby food, when he got up he wouldnt place his hind leg, today his stool has gotten somewhat better but he just won't place his hind leg. He runs around and acts normally but doesn't olace his hind leg for anything. We've massaged it and checked his paws and all parts of his leg for injury but nothing is found. Other than pulling his leg after we've been touching it for a bit he doesn't show any pain. Does anyone know what's wrong or what we can do to make sure he is okay? |
I would be at the vet office. I would show up with an "emergency" type thing, not let them schedule an appointment several days off......they may have to work you in, but I just couldnt stand to see my baby "down in the back". |
Thank you for responding!! We did talk to a Vet and he told us to keep him hydrated with lots of water and baby food because he may just be weak from all of the diherrea. He woke up today hungry and wants his regular food, i don't know if I should let him eat his food or just continue with the water and baby food for another day. His spirits are much better today but I don't want to rush anything. Should I take him to the vet again? Or just let him continue walking on 3 legs for today and see how he wakes up tomorrow? |
Alright I am a tad concerned here. Did you let the vet know he was hopping on three legs? As well as being off his food and having diarrhea In my opinion you need a vet visit pronto. That leg needs to be examined, the most immediate and relatively benign thing it could be is a sprain or a strain to the leg muscle(s) or a Luxating Patella, or loose knee cap. Let us know what the vet says when he examines him |
Is he is staggering like he would be from "weakness from diarrhea" , or is he carrying that leg up like from a luxating patella or leg injury, or does he look like he may have had a stroke or some kind of nerve damage that he is unable to use his hind leg/legs? That covers the severity of his symptoms, and kind of gives an idea of what direction to move in! |
I would get him to a vet. If your vet doesn't feel he needs to be seen I think I would try to find one who would. Is he still having diarrhea and the hurt leg? Have both of these been going on for a day and half? |
I know I would find another vet that would look at your baby. Diarrea is nothing to play around with even if they are drinking water. They can dehydrate very fast. Hope your baby gets better soon. Susan |
